Shit talking is an integral part of 40k, in the lore and tabletop. I don't mean personal insults or attacks but the act of taunting your foe and comparing sword length. Could you imagine how dull a tabletop of 40k would be if you weren't allowed to speak to your opponent? In game you could spot a rival chapter/warband/craftworld and call them out. At least give us the option to turn on global chat if we want it, all the races speak Gothic and battlefield banter is something that can add to the immersion and atmosphere of the game. Of course people who refuse to be a good sport can be squelched via the scoreboard on a personal level. I'm just saying don't remove options from the player.
I miss it so much. It was fucking silly more than anything. I didn't catch much in the way of bad apples, and if there was any negativity, it was usually directed towards the game's mechanics and how things were currently balanced. Sure, someone will start talking shit every now and again, but that's easy to filter out with something as simple as an ignore function. Also: Chances are if someone's shit-talking you, you're doing alright in the game. Keep at it, son. Seriously though, let me try to out-shout the Orks again. Shit-talking the enemy team was kind of my shtick.
Most of the worst of it stemmed from persistent balance issues(so I can see why a Power Fist user would think global is all insults all the time, lol) and people feeling the need to vent their frustrations in real time. Once the game is balanced this source of frustration will vastly diminish, and thus we won't be seeing a lot of trash talk based on who's cheesing what at what time. Besides these balance related salting, global chat was mostly banter with a few actual shittalkers here and there. Though I must say the worst chat experience I had in this game came from my own team. Some guy was playing a loop of porn sound effects and a couple Text-to-Speech edgelord rap songs on voice comms. Over and over again. So you will not be preventing trolling, nor does this mean that certain things people do over chat shouldn't be reportable to a mod.
Removing global chat is one of the worst decisions I've seen in this game so far, and I've been here since the game was first announced. My games these days are all absurdly quiet, and it gets really boring. The social aspect has been almost entirely removed, and that's not a good way to foster a community. Most of the time my team will not even talk at all, and where before I could chat with the other team, now I'm forced to play in silence. Look at more popular games like Overwatch. You can talk to the other team in that game while playing, and it's always a lot of fun. I've never once dealt with someone that was too horrible to deal with. It really feels like some people need to grow thicker skin.
I've never really understood why people can't just play instead of worrying about what some stupid, trolly, mon-keigh is flinging in a chatbox. I am usually to focused on playing to actually notice it, and when I do, if there is a bit of drama, I laugh, because that's all its worth. Take for instance yesterday, I killed a CSM player in close combat after a bit of a bout, and he actually vote kicked me after, I didn't even know vote kick was a thing until then, of course it didn't pass. Such was the rage welled up inside him by our demonstration of absolute superiority (it was medusa, not once did they get a hack on) that the tirade of curses and ill will towards our sexuality, it was something to behold, all I could do is laugh. Anyways, I do believe there is something to be missed, forcing communicational segregation really serves no real purpose other to clean up the obscene, and if someone was thin skinned enough to get offended, that's their own problem
I voted yes, give the players an option. I honestly don't see what compels someone to be an absolute dick to a stranger on the internet, but if that is your thing, go for it. I've seen plenty of shit talking, and direct insults, from a lot of folks posting on here. No, it doesn't offend me or hurt me feelings, I just don't want to be bothered by pettiness. When Global was running, and there were the people that needed everyone to know just how the felt about weapon/player/guild/map X, it would get distracting as people on my team would feed the troll, or stop to take screenies to report them.
Behold Exhibit B. Me thinks you doth protest too much. Under any circumstances, naming other players is frowned upon. I believe it is actually against community policy. There is a difference between being vague, and unnecessarily bringing up a specific player's actions. You could have simply said "someone from an opposing faction tried to votekick me..." but you had to bring in names. Same for the other post about vote kicking. Seems to me that there were direct accusations of unsportsmanlike conduct. You said the individual tried to vote kick you just because you were winning. For the clan portion, it was an insinuation, but specifically targeted, with 0 proof. You are right, I don't jump up to defend you. I'm sorry. I don't follow you, so I can't see everywhere you post, and quite frankly, when I do see your writings, I asses that you are usually the one starting the fights. That, coupled with the amount of abuse I feel you throw out during the games I have been in with you, I can't in good conscience defend you. You've also taken numerous personal swipes at me, including accusing me of being retarded, on drugs, or other things, to which I've stayed on topic as opposed to returning the accusations. So again, sorry for not having your back. Finally, thank you for intentionally misinterpreting my words. Quite the gymnastics to make that work. I'll clarify: I find naming of players to be toxic behavior, especially when insinuating that person was acting dishonestly. I find claims that any group of people, be it a clan, or just a random squad, would resort to administrative tricks just a win to be toxic. Neither of those things do anything to build good community relations within the player base.
