Loyalist Lascannon

  1. please move this post if it belongs in suggestions/bugs

I usually play chaos (iron within, iron without!) and am fairly successful pleasing the gods by picking braced combatants off the walls with my trusty MC Lascannon. But with chaos campaign going on every game is stomp, stomp, stomp and feeling bad for the loyalists, I switched sides to help out the Emprah (rank 5 dark angels).

Got into a fortress map (my favorite), popped on to my Loyal Lascannon and couldn't hit a friggen thing. Is this a well known bug that I just figured out? I've played a LOT of chaos lascannon and only ever miss if they dodge right when i fire. This crappy LOLscannon just shoots around infantry all the time. I thought maybe it shot high for some reason so i try aiming down a little and it just shoots to the side. It's like every enemy has void shields. No, it's not lag, I have rock solid latency and 95% of the time I'm shooting at someone who's braced on a wall.

I will resurrect my twitch channel if I have to to prove it but I cannot be the only one to have seen this. Shot over multiple people 2-3 times and they laugh as they just ignore me to keep shooting my teammates!

Recently lascannons and zzapguns scatter the shot while zoomed in, so its pure chance if you hit or not when aiming perfectly down the zoomed in sight. If you don't zoom, you hit everytime. It's the same for all 3 factions though, LSM doesn't have a disadvantage there comparatively.

I don't know... If you are moving while shooting, the spread can make you miss.
But I'm not aware that this is a common thing.

Here is how you use it to Snipe infantry
    Its a 3 step process:
Step 1: Zoom in and find target , align cross hair with target once found.
Step 2: Zoom out don't move the mouse and hope the target doesn't move ( ez on fortress maps they hardly move)
Step 3: Then and ONLY then will you take the shot .. 100% accurate ....always ...from the hip.

here is some random gameplay of me mostly failing at it .. but still doing ok its still kinda tricky if you don't have steady hands.
Damn you exterminatus hand!! why you no shoot straight!

  5. so the answer is never use the scope except to scout targets - doesn't that seems a little backwards though? should our military start instructing all sniper school cadets to hip fire?

The answer to that question is 'Yes'! Let us stand united to turn the world a little orkier!

Alternatively you can charge the entire shot whilst scoped then release the scope at the last second for a perfectly accurate shot. Takes a little practice but makes it much easier to snipe with in the long run.

Very reminiscent of bolt action snipers in other FPS games actually. Where you don't get to see the kill because you're already recocking the gun usually.
Oh gawd ..I just got reminded how bloody awful i am at bolt action sniping ...

Oddly enough the scope increases your view distance which if you cannot actually see the target, you cannot hit them. I've had braced heavies I would zoom to see and start charging and the charge would come off when I unzoomed.
  10. Well this explains a lot for me.

And for the record seems totally backasswards. It's a laser sniper weapon that gets less accurate, randomly, when you zoom in....

    Da fuq?

It's got a red laser that paints itself all over your face for 2.5 seconds FFS. Did it really need this completely unintuitive mechanic as well to keep it in line? Or was there just too much laser sniping in Alpha?

I'll be honest, I thought this was just a bug. That someone would do this intentionally.....and yet bolter, SC and Shootah scopes completely eliminate spread?
