The plan is to make it into open world mmo with 1000 player battles etc, but they realised that making the game directly into that is not realistic.

So first we get lobby shooter and they will work on the basic game mechanics and then keep adding more and more mmo stuff to it until after few years they hopefully reach that initial dream what they first wanted to archive.

Thats what i have read and understood the plan is...

Close to the original dream, unless a new tech comes out that is the holy grail of MMO FPS, that keeps Ping low, hit detection high and dose not player cull just to keep a fixed number of people on the map so your computer can render them all, all we can hope for is a "large world" assume much like Planet side2 were there large open areas but not truly "open world".

Even if it starts out a lobby shooter, I don't see it staying that way long, its just to get the FPS part of the game right, kind of like you cant have a House before you have a foundation, and in a FPS the foundation is the Shooter part of the game, got to get that right or the house will crumble around us.

Massive Angry GangBang wasn't it? and i can see that. except a lot more anger and chain swords and screaming about emperor and waahgs than 10 year olds screaming they did your mother last night.

My long term motivation is to kick some space marine ass. I am tired of the orks being used as cheap canon foder for stories and games. Time to show why GREEN IS THE BEST!!!!
  5. The thing that is motivating me is the depth and scale this game has the potential to achieve all we need is time.

I want a 40k game to grow and grow and grow to eclipse all other MMOs.. /maniacal laughter

This game will give warhammer 40000 enthusists an oppertunity to play as an elite warrior of the 41st Millenium which to many of us we have been wanting for sometime. I can talk for our Chapter in stating that this will give an insight into full Dark Angel Companies fighting on the field of battle where possible. This would be an incredible sight and is one of the main driving factors of this MMO for our group and is why we wish to stay committed long after its full release. It also gives an oppertunity to see many of the weapons from the 40k series that have not been shown on video games as of yet and the first tyranid fighting experience on 3rd person on the open battlefield. As a Chaplain I look forward to fielding a Chaplain character and chanting the ancient rites of war to the Chapter and to my Company.

Many others have many reasons but It would not surprise me to see full strength Chapters or close to it as the game progresses later.

  9. So it seems MMO's and porn movies have something in common...nobody cares about the story.

Seriously, beside having action and epic battles does nobody think of the story element as an long-term motivation? I would be very disappointed, or to say it better bored, if this game is just a hollow massive lobby shooter. I want to have the story inspiring us to unexpected heroic actions, to change the fate of Arkhona!
Second to that my motivation will be of course the progression of my characters.

  10. This, I very rarely play multiplayer games because once the novelty is gone, they have nothing to keep my interest in it for more than a few hours. You can't have interesting characters and stories in MMOs because you're aware that the world/universy/reality is being saved every 15 minutes by some random player farming the final boss for loot.

Can you imagine playing Dark Millenium (the conventional MMORPG) where Abaddon gets killed every 15 minutes and half the playerbase is running around with the Talon of Horus and Drach'nyen?
