I'm not sure if this has been covered already but imma go and make a thread on this anyway.

Do you think there should be player-controlled aircraft in this game?
I would really like to see a transport ship, galaxy-esque, but perhaps aybe to carry 20-25 troopers. These were a great tool in Planetside, allowing you and your friends to make precision drops onto enemy targets. Though, I think they should be even more tanky than in PS2; they are huge, slow targets that are always focused down.

And although most of my PS2 kills have been in the mosquito, im kinda against any kind of jets in this game, they are usually designed as a dogfighting vehicle, but as in BF3 and PS2 they are usually used for easy kills against un-prepared ground troops.

Types of flying vehicles you want to see? (the piloting master race need something to do, after all ;))

I loved using the troop transport heli in BF3 to actually transport troops.

Had a fantastic game where we basically kept parachuting out of the chopper, captured a point and then regrouped for a pickup.

Generally you ended up with someone just using it to get to a high point to snipe from all by themselves.

I'm not sure there should be player-controlled aircrafts.
It's a big responsibility, what if the pilot is a nutjob? What if he doesn't know what the heck he's doing? How would you control that?

Should there be player controlled aircraft? Yes.

Should the average player have access to it? No.

I believe that commanders, strike force leaders, and other high "ranking" members should have access to it. More importantly, I believe that perhaps the use of them could be "locked" until said higher member gave the go ahead? It always bugged me how some people would just fly around randomly and get shot down.

Aircraft, especially astartes piloted ones, are incredibly important to ground movement and should be treated as such

TL;DR-tight restrictions on their use;try and maximize the amount of coordination in using them.

There should be an option to vote-ban the pilot's access to aicrafts for a certain amount of time.

Well, you cant control the pilot...and he may end up killing you - but theres friendly fire in this game! He could kill u anytime he wanted anyway! If you meet a troll in game, report them xP

About the leader-access thing - I would actually think it better if anyone could fly the planes, provided they have spent a large amount of xp in a utility tree or something to unlock it. This would both ensure that the pilot is specialised in flying and is good at it & also that he has spent so much xp to get the bird that he wants to use it in an equally efficient and awesome way. Also, a new player might hear that EC has transport planes...and so decides that that's what he wants to do in game more than anything else - should we restrict him because he isn't elected to be a squad leader?

Overall I think heavily investing certs would be a good way to do it, I agree that in PS2 having access to all vehicles at level 1 isn't exactly a good thing...

Make him meet the requirements and buy a license, or something like that =)
On the other hand, how would the player gain proficiency without practice?
  8. PandaShoots Member

    Playing planetside 2 beforehand? :D

I dunno, perhaps there could be a VR mode or something similar where you could practice your flying mechanics, etc. without it affecting other players

I would be fine if all they ever added was some form of a gun-ship (kind of like the Galaxy).
    • Slow moving
    • High armor
    • One pilot
    • ~2 gunners (does not have to be explosives, can just be heavy bolters)

So, a flying bunker that is

..Can't think of any considerable gunships from the tabletop game
All of the Imperial aircrafts are mostly for transportation and scouting, as far as I recall
As well as Eldar and Orks
