LETS REMOVE MELEE LOCK ON! USE SUM SKILL YA GITS!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Thrakka, Sep 26, 2016.

  1. Lock on needs to stay.

You can remove smart pistols though, no issue from me on that.
  2. No smart pistols, but keep the melee lock on. It really helps me.

What "feels" like a 40k game is subjective, im sure we agree on that one. It is not possible to please all the people all the time, im sure we agree on that one too. "Ever swung a sword?". We arent playing a realistic game. If its realism we are after, i would probably start somewhere around "Have you ever been stuck somewhere because you cant lift your feet 8cm?" and then work our way through the whole "omg there are ALIENS AND WE ARE IN THE FUTURE!".

So basically what we are left with is that many melee fights are decided by a third guy and you dislike that. But at the same time youre saying that it is not what youre complaining about. Then whats your post about?

I guess im not sure what youre saying. Could i ask you to rephrase your point please? I was talking about the lock-on system and how its dangerous to have and your reply was 50% intangible complaining about the nature of a team game, 45% "Dont talk about game X" and 5% "dont derail the thread".

What does that have to do with my point of how the built-in lock-on is a dangerous feature to have on UE4 for PC?

("Game X" is really the islam-equivalent for gaming, you people go nuts when its mentioned...)
  4. The melee system is dependant on the lock on, except for the occasions when you just spam the hell out of fast attack. Just shows how bad the system is.

I wouldn't mind if the lock on was removed completely. Would add some skill to the melee classes (good players will likely be as good) and reduce the effectiveness of mindless light spam as dodge might actually work.

  6. Lock on saves my wrist from certain death in tight melee mayhem.
  7. I think it's a garbage mechanic in Dark Souls as well. In Dark Souls 3, in fact, it nearly ruins the PvP when combined with the near perfect tracking every weapon has when locked-on.

The entire melee system is FUBAR, and has been since first conception. The lock on, the clanging, the rock-paper-scissors; it's clunky, unsuitable for mass combat, unsuitable for a game with server latency, and has a low skill cap (I CHOOSE SCISSORS!!!1).

Okay. Then I will rephrase it.
At first the "realism" thing. I am not after realism. Only fantasy realism. A Space Marine is a Soldier so damn Elite that he couldn't even be compared to anything we have nowadays. But with the lock on gone, I will see such elite soldiers being too stupid to swing a sword in the right direction, because the player is not a genetically enhanced, indoctrinated super spartan with a live that revolves only about combat.

    Next point: Third guy.
I think it will make melee very unsatisfying if the default ending to a melee duel is a third guy. It happens. It happens a lot. But it isn't the default, so don't make it the default by making melee duels take too long.

The thing about making cheating easier with this mechanic is an interesting point though. A valid one I'd say, but not so much as you might think. It is possible that it makes it easier, but game mechanics shouldn't be build around the possibility to be exploited by third party software... or coding... or whatever the right term is.

Roll left/right. defensive kick, heavy attack, execute, done.
