We recorded Altansar first. Seriously. They were the voices that were completely new and unestablished and the most in conflict with how our game plays, so we took our time with them, experimenting and really trying to get them right. And it is not fun to have stressed the actors' voices so much. Rather, we are all sincerely grateful that they went the distance, and then some, for our game to make it great. Sharks are silent, so they are not an issue for audio.
They all scream on the inside, cause they will never be able to evolve arms and play EC. Poor sharks. Btw Ian i wanted to ask. Have you given it any thought how you will do the audio for different marks? Like, different audio filters or something? Im assuming you will add some filters to mark of Nurgle to make the marine sound sickly (correct me if im wrong), but what about other God Marks? I dunno if it would even fit that other God Marks effect the voice of a marine, but it would be interesting to see if you had any ideas. Perhaps Tzeentch Mark would have overlapping voices or something, though that might make it harder for people to understand him.
Will there be different kind of orders depending on what race you're fighting against? For example, if Space Marines were fighting Chaos, along with the generic "Go here and capture this point" there could also be specific ones like "Heretics reside here. Cleanse the grounds of their taint!" How does making sounds work? I'm very curious.
Out of curiosity, how much would David Timson (The narrator from Angel Exterminatus) charge the studio to be the 3rd person narrator for Eternal Crusade? Maybe we could setup a donations fund!
I was thinking more like Gareth Armstrong or Toby Longworth? At least for SM vox channels. Just don't take Steve Blum
*Gasp* Really? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love all of the names mentioned, but I feel Timson is the best they have. The way he portrayed the voice of Perturabo? Gave me shivers!
First off yes! There will be race specific commands and even sub faction specific commands! Like if the Ultramarines encounter the Word Bearers, so it'll create a great atmosphere within the game. How you make audio is actually pretty interesting having done it myself. There are two ways you can basically do it. The first way is supplementing audio from real life. Record a chain saw and then tweak it to your desire, or capture a particularly evil quip and then modulate it to sound extra heretical! You can also draw upon a database of over millions of prerecorded sounds (if you have access to it) but let's be real, there isn't any fun in that
