    Bullet-bys are on my wish list. A bullet-by is the sound which a bullet makes when flying past a listener. It is a very close sound, usually within a couple meters. These are really great sounds and add a lot to the sense of being under fire. But right now there is a technical hurdle (not on my side) that needs to be resolved if I am to add them to the game. If we get bullet-bys into the game and if design decides to use super-sonic ammunition then of course we will add super-sonic bullet-by sounds.
  2. As Nomad was quoting in his thread, according to the HH novel False Gods there is supersonic and subsonic ammunition for Bolters at least back at M31.

    I spoke with Brent about this issue and it is one of those things that could spiral out of control and might very well become a feature that both does not go far enough to make anyone happy and yet annoys the hell out of people. Consider it on the way-back burner. Nice-to-have, eventually, post post post - if we figure out all the possible permutations.

    Turns out there was a bug with the demolisher. It was not playing it's kaboom. It is back, but now you cannot hear it as you probably wont see it in the Promethium map. Also, the projectile is going to have a sound on it much like what is eventually going to happen with the lobbed plasma projectile: there will be sound on it with Doppler so you can get a pass-by effect. But don't hold your breath on this as the task is in programming's queue.

    Update time!

    Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine Foley got recorded this past week. It was truly awesome to get four sound guys together to do this. Beside Mathieu and I, we had Philippe Charron and Frederic Poirier doing tech. We generated so much material Mathieu will probably be editing until Christmas.

    Besides that you will hear different impact sounds for both shield and health. Gone is the force field style sound for the shields, replaced by proper ceramite 'tinks'. The health impacts are too heavy right now so next patch they will be improved, but both are a WIP so changes will continue to be made.

    Minor changes and improvements have been made to the various volume/distance curves, certain kabooms are different and hopefully the Assault/Raptor's are not totally silent anymore (I really hate those guys so I have to keep reminding myself to remain professional and not give them a screeching alarm sound that continually plays when they try to sneak up on me).

    More news eventually. Enjoy patch 8, if you are in.

  7. Would be cool if the big fans on top of the vindicator kick in with a howling after the shot is fired :)

    I just noticed that you guys placed the bolter sound on the bolt pistol, its a gigantic improvement in the sound of the weapon compared to the old wimpy sound.

    I have to ask tho, and this is more curiosity then a desire for change (cause im loving it now), is the plan to make the bolt pistol sound different or are you content with just giving it the same sound as the boltgun like we can hear now?

    EDIT: Also i see the bolter sound got an update as well, its even better. You outdo yourself with each iteration of it i swear.
