Think he answered all the questions posed in the thread, ergo he has nothing to add to the thread at this point.

There is still a great deal to talk about, but this week has been really intense, hence my not being on the thread at all, so while I unwind I will work my way through the unanswered questions. But first I must watch the Twitch from today. brb.
  3. I'll admit, this sounds a bit strange seeing as you're part of the team.

Well, he does need to check up on the sound and fix/tweak where needed.
Gotta be presentable and all. Last time the powers that be didnt find gameplay in a presentable state we had that no gameplay drought for months.
  5. No, I mean that since he's a part of the team, I'd assume he'd be aware of the contents of the twitch including any potential issues.

It's not really important, what matters is that the bolters sound manly like in DoW 2.

Heh, well he was playing with the others, not really focused on the minute details around you when you are focused on fighting and winning. ;)
Rewatching it with his focus 100% on the game sound rather then playing seems like a logical thing to do for a man who needs to check out every detail and fix what needs fixing.
  7. Speaking of Twitch, anyone else's Youtube subscriptions get hijacked by 12 identical non-working stream links?

Ah ha! Yes let's start with this issue first. I don't watch the Twitch live, nor do I know what is going to be on the Twitch that day except for the map we will play and our general instructions. I prefer it this way as I'd rather sit back and watch the Twitch later, enjoy the laughs and see if my character gets killed on screen (or not!).

Going a little further, due to the nature of our jobs, audio does not sit with the team. We have closed sound booths/rooms with acoustic treatment so that the hubbub from the floor does not interfere with our working, and the work we do does not bother the team (except what bleeds through the door, but this can be really fun to exploit from time to time). This does mean that we miss out on the live info that goes around the floor, which is a problem for all audio people in the industry, but we are pretty pro-active about most things so its's not a huge deal. And no, sitting on the dev floor with everyone else and using headphones is not a solution.

But yes I knew there were problems with the build today as we tested the map out this morning. For example, this particular map has not been sounded and it especially suffers from the current lack of obstruction and occlusion in the game (due to the tight rooms, multiple corridors and verticality). Inside/outside ambiences need to be sorted out, reverb volumes and surface flags needed to be added, and the few animations (like the elevator) need sound callbacks. It's all on the list. We will get there.

Yeah, and what a crazy fun battle that was!

I did a whole whack of VO work this past week. And the preliminary test sets for barks and grunts are now in the game, like the cheers. You might have heard these in the Twitch. They work with distance curves so war cries in the distance look to me like something players can organize on their own.

Sound is underrated for immersion factor and the more effective it is the more it is unnoticed because you're so immersed! Already in the pre-beta I can tell a lot of thought is going into it. Great job so far.
