I have to say, after dying hundreds of times as a firedragon, I was afraid the spawn calls would go stale ala "Stay awhile and listen." But even after all those calls, the delivery and variance has kept them awesome.
@NoiseMaker Currently on the live servers it seems like sound sources don't give enough cues to the player about their location. Many a times I have stopped my sprint because I hear gunfire near my location, only to find out that the enemy was above/below me. I'd like to have an idea of how long the wait is going to be till this problem alleviated. Will e.g. patch #22 add fancy sound processing based on room-size/surrounding geometry? Thanks in advance.
Orks sound great. Ork vehicles sound great. Mathieu and you (and whoever else is on the sound team?) did a good job there. That said, it seems like currently player shouts are extremely quiet the moment you get more than three or four feet from another player. Obviously you don't want them overwhelming across the entire battlefield, but I shouldn't have to stand inside the guy I want to taunt/celebrate with, should I?
sound is also bugy sometimes yesterday my sounds were dieing one by one! first i had no footsteps, then suddenly no warcry sounds and then... no gun fire sounds!(makes ork sad ) but sounds overall are pretty good
I dont have time to answer everyone's question right now but if you run into an audio bug, please report it. We are having great trouble replicating some of the bugs that have been reported because we need more details, like how many continuous matches you have played, what loadouts you use, etc. Also, if the bug goes away after closing the client and restarting is really important.
One bug im getting most often is that i get strange painful static noise emitted when im driving in a Rhino, its sadly too random to pinpoint. I also often get the "warning beeping sound" (when somoene is targeting the vehicle you are in), but theres noone targeting me. One other thing thats kinda annoying is that often when you spot an enemy/vehicle the "spot bark" doesent emit from your character but rather somewhere from the sides (or even from an ally), its very strange.
I have passed these on to @MathieuLavoie as he is our audio bug guy, from now on right through launch and beyond. But please create proper bug reports as well as posting reminders here. And don't be shy about tagging @MathieuLavoie in your posts so that he can find them. Of course, if you are commenting on UAT material, post these in the founders forum and tag both of us. Thanks to everyone so far!
Another bug with the latest patch, every sound seems to be very low. The combat, the voices, the works. Then you enter a vehicle and the sound of its engine blows your damn eardrums off. So everything sound wise is toned down, besides vehicles when you are in them, then the sound is up to 11.
For the ork plasma weapons and slower firing weapons is it possible to try out a deeper booming/heavier on the base quality to the sound? Some of the Dakka seems just a little too muted if that makes sense. Orks always love making as much mean angry noise as they can. i always imagine dakka being a little more over the top and cartoonish when I try and imagine it.
