Alright guys. To tell you the truth, I did lose my interest but since you like it, I will continue with it, expect a post tomorrow Honestly, I got a bit tired of the constant grim darkness of the 40k, that's why I kinda eased up on the RPing part in it, all of my chars which I have atm on the forum are kinda relaxed, at least in my perspective. That fantasy RP I wanted to pull out for quite some time had made me thinking in a different path, perhaps that is one of the reasons I kinda slowed down. Oh well, we'll make something out of it yet
Screams almost like we need to bring back Band of Exiles or make a new Elite Squadron! But I get what you mean. I think the problem is that Road of Blood succeeded too well in the whole Grim-Dark grittiness and made many people want to 're-live' those moments, yet it appears our brains (and hearts?) had enough of the total eclipse and killing sprees. There is only so much epicness one can do ^^
I think you are right mate, I think that it also succeeded because it had a strong background in your first DW, which then we all basically expanded and added something new. Yes it was grim and dark, but I remember that you said during that time that it was not the combat and stuff like that that carried it forward (the combat being only a "side-effect"), but the narrative and overall atmosphere. I know I enjoyed it extremely, but on the other hand it rly took away lot of my free time and taught me a lot about GMing in general. Atm, I'm struggling to write something for this RP and I caught the trend happening with me the same way it happened with that Chaos RP - 100% honest, but all that writing about HP, specific enemies, shit like that, it bores me lol But I don't think the entire system is bad, I actually think its quite awesome. For instance, the way you do DW now or how Deran & Matt do their combats - I enjoy immensely playing them, but I somehow don't enjoy GMing them. I guess the most important thing every person can do is find out what he can and what he can't do Atm, I'm thinkering about ideas for a WHF RP which is my old secret desire, something I'm a big fan of and something I wanted to write about for quite a long time. And I see the pattern, since WHF is much more relaxed and less grimdark, that's something I personally desire to do...
I agree on all points to 125%. The thing with the math is that it can get REALLY draggy, especially in huge battles (which is what I tested in DWS with my system and it definitely doesn't work xD), you gotta take an approach like @matt23 did in Descendants of Blood that you are only fighting those that are in immediate range, rather than total amounts. And overall I learned here anyhow that Playing > GM, because you don't have to do anything but do whatever you love to do, while as GM you have to make everything possible and somehow translate into mathematics. That said, both is equally rewarding and fun for me, because you get to create all those awesome scenarios and challenges. And it can get worse/better sometimes depending whether the GM has an own char in there too, or not. And I mean a real active char who is around with the player group all the time, not just a mission-giver char. That said, you are completely right and also what should be highlighted with this: That doesn't only count regards GMing vs. Playing, but also the style of playing, frequency, etc. Of course often times it is hard to judge without playing at first, which is why the highest drop-out rate of RPs is always in the first 2-4 weeks of a RP's lifetime because players are trying to figure out whether it's something for them or not.
