Rules for having having a successful MMO (IMO): - Test, Test & Test! Make sure all content is properly tested and 99% of major bugs fixed before release - End game content is a must. - Player driven World. - Tons of Cosmetics (Especially for Warhammer games), everyone wants to to look amazing. - Balance game-play (1 man tanks are horrible). - Social & Teamwork driven, I really don't see the point of lone wolves in MMOs.
OFFTOPIC. OMG.... omg omg omg. I gona try and calm my self down.... Those cursed words.... Fallout 3 is a total digradation of fallout franchise. Have you ever played the 2nd one? Yes it is old, yea it is look bad nowdays. But those pixeled freaks had got more personality than most of the characters in 3rd all together. And i will not talk about the qests there, because it is gona take way to long. Fallout 3rd is maby a good, casual modern rpg. But it is a bad Fallout with a mental deficiency.lol) Sorry for offtopic but as a hardcore fan could not past your post))))

How quaint, Angry Pedro here was praising the game for some time, i wonder how many people actually bought it cause of his praise only to stumble on this vid.
I agree that the greatest mistake most mmos make is that they try too hard to be WoW. PvE Content-driven mmos require huge investments which means increased prices or subscriptions which leads to potential players not investing in it due to the lack of innovation and their brand loyalty to an older mmo. I am pleased with EC's strategy since it's PvP focus makes avoiding this pitfall easier. It allows player-driven content and making end-game stuff for PvP is much easier than for PvE. Many mmos also suffer from their extreme cliched classes. When you look at classical mmos, you basically have tanks, ranged dps, a guy with a single controllable pet, etc. All types feel the same and play the same in all games. GW 2 tried to avert this, but I think they went too much in the other direction and made a lot of unnecessary streamlining. This will be quite different in EC due to its action-game controls and the fact it's totally PvP focused. So, what EC has to achieve with its classes is Dps diversification since it is the only viable archetype (and maybe some sort of support/healer archetype). We can achieve dps diversication through extensive ability customisation. The much lauded horizontal levelling is an excellent tool for this. Give us a lot of tools, and several viable builds for each class. Cookie cutter builds must be avoided. Also, avoid overhyping. It can kill mmos before launch if they promise content they won't deliver. EC is once again heading in the right direction with this. Four races, with Undivided only for Chaos. This will allow them to gradually develop and put additional content post-launch, keeping the game fresh.
Though it is true that Blizzard has created a stranglehold on the MMORPG market itself. To propagate the idea that all that emulate their style is just simply a WoW clone is a very bad for the MMO community and it's growth as a whole. The truth is that there is really nothing new under the sun and as humans our creativity is mainly based on how to improve our advancements, or how to improve on things we reference out of nature. I like to say that everquest was a pioneer and blizzard took everquests idea and simplified it to a level where your everyday casual gamer can enjoy as well, from this you have WoW. There are games which have grabbed what WoW has done along with the additions of many other MMOs and have made it better, for example FF14:ARR. I believe that in the art of story telling and total immersion and in game character build-up the devs should use some of these games as reference - SWTOR, WoW, FF14:ARR etc.. As from what I have read in the forums the game will have a pvp centric format much like Planetside, but an improvement on the current platform. Bigger battles, melee combat, better skill trees and upgrades.. etc.. I truly believe that for them to really set the bar on a different level they will need to find a way to combine the story telling you get out of a game like SWTOR and the massive scale of a game like PS2. They have already shown us what they are doing to achieve the massive scale now we should wait and see how they will take advantage of the rich lore in 40k.
Just to summarize what I feel is the best part of your post. THIS^ lol..do away with cookie cutter builds.. create a game where everyone is a dps at base and from that base can branch into a specialization. break away from the mold. Though I think that terminators can be a tanky(heavy armor and health) sort of class I would love for this to be a very strong slow hitting class instead much like what you get from the lore. Since there really isn't much room for tanks in PVP, a support CC or alternate builds would be optimal. MOBAS tend to do this pretty well, create support roles instead of specific healer and/or tank roles.
NO offense to anyone OR the OP but.. You shouldn't compare EC to other any mmo's, for one thing: EC is completely different, gameplay and focus wise, with alot of changes to things we take as 'MMO like'. We haven't even came up with a name to call this genre, MMOTPSRPPWG? Yeh may need something shorter. The closest thing EC can be compared to, besides planetside, since technically its not an mmo. Is eldar scrolls online pvp, but we should know why that is silly. IMO instead of learning from other mmo's mistakes it should be 'Mistakes EC can make and should try to avoid' and use mmo's as an example because of problems they have encountered. Just saying this because some people will get the wrong idea about this game, if they havnt heard much about it yet. Back to topic, a big mistake mmo's make, is trying to be better then what they can be. For example, the recent ESO was hyped way too much and the developers said alot of things about the game that weren't true. They said players will join together and will have a good group experience, simplified of what they actually said. And the group/party system was horrible, if you dont think so, look up angry joe and watch his review. So, keep the stuff you have now, all the stuff you have said you want in this game bE and dont go hyping it, dont start saying that the party system is going to be revolutionary or that the item and loot system is better then what we have seen before, or anything generally like that. If you want to share something good, try keep it simple, say you're still working on it and it should be alright for launch date. Nowadays hype is ruining games, titanfall was ruined, sort of, by the hype for the campaign, ESO because it has TES name tag and from what I said before, hell even COD... yes Cod.
