Dont feel bad melee fans, BHVR is on the job nerfing ranged weapons. Unfortunately with the latest patch one of the only ranged weapons that's actually useful(and integral) to many melee builds was nerfed. As much as I'd rather see something other than the smart pistol, as far as game mechanics, that gives melee archetypes an advantage in close combat, this is none the less a direct nerf to Jump Assaults. While the merits of the smart pistol in games like Titanfall and EC are debatable, none the less the timing of EC's smart pistol nerfs are mind boggling. Of all the things in game that need balancing(MELEE) and nerfing(BACKPEDDLING AND SHOOTING BEATS MELEE) we cannot find the time to fix these issues yet we can nerf the Smart Pistol. If it's tied to the target or user moving and being done purposefully then you're rendering the weapon unusable. Standing still in a firefight in EC means death. We have to shoot and move, especially on Jump Assaults. Mobility is life on a JPA. If the Smart Pistol is not properly tracking targets when we are running or in flight it's a useless weapon. Frank I find it amusing that we're going on about 6 weeks now with melee being a train wreck, with Bolters and Tacticals reigning supreme and we cannot nerf or tweak one aspect of the current state of melee to help bring balance. YET, we can sure as shit nerf one of the ONLY viable tools that Jump Assaults use to gain an advantage. This is unbelievable.
I can not disagree with this nerf. I ceased using the smart bolt pistol on Raptors and JPA's because it was nothing but a cheap damage increase that was utterly lethal to Eldar in particular. The jump-classes can do without these weapons, normal pistols can get the job done sufficiently without aimbotting mechanics.
It's to prevent head shotting, which should never have been happening with a smart pistol to begin with. You've been used to getting them for a long time, now you'll have to adjust. Use a real pistol and reap the rewards anyway.
Sure we can take the time to nerf the smart pistol, which has been a hot topic on and off for 18 months, but we cant make a single change the to train wreck that is Bolter vs Melee.
The "Bolter vs Melee" issue is that the RPS system is out of date with the new TTK. The Smart Pistol is an unabashed crutch and always has been, and with the current ranged TTK it's absolutely lethal to Eldar and strong on JPA classes. I want them gone period but this is a good step nonetheless.
You kidding me? A nerf to smart bolt pistol a nerf to melee? I don't even consider using that piece of trash on any build. Use a regular pistol it does more damage anyway. Can't believe someone whining that aim bot got nerfed.
