i want play Fallens right now.....RELEASE IT!!!!!!!!!! they are loyalist!!!!!! dark angels are heretics!!! ahahhaha OMFG!!!! xD
So is this the meme about Dark Angels being traitors and the Fallen being loyalists or have GW released something new that I haven't heard about?
I'm going based on my knowledge of the Dark Angels which could be incomplete. From my understanding right after the Horus Heresy after half of the legions turned to chaos is when a section of the dark angels turned from their primarchs way because they believed his actions to be heretical in nature. They left the main chapter and Lion el Johnson due to "having knowledge that makes the dark angels heretical" and then disappeared to play spy. This is heresy by nature and even if the rogue like elements of the dark angels revealed that the core dark angels were heretics, it still wouldnt clear their own names as they committed heresy by consorting with chaos and renegades and stood against the imperium. Not only that, if I'm correct it was Lion El Johnson and his closest leaders who were claimed to be heretical. But after what went down on "the rock" most of them are either dead, or nowhere to be found. So I dont think the core leadership of the dark angels are heretical and continue to do the emperors work aside from the fact that the chapter had heresy in its midst. Its arguable that keeping this information secret is heresy, but many successful space marine chapters already do that. So based on what i know and understand, here are the facts. #1. The renegade dark angels are heretics no matter if they are correct or not. #2. While the old leadership of the dark angels could be branded heretics, the dark angels today have no association with that heresy. (as far as we know) #3. Withholding information from the inquisition is something space marine chapters do, and the dark angels arent any different for hiding their shame.
Note: it is impossible to speak about DAs without using copious amounts of the word loyalty. #1 is really a complicated issue, since they could be everything along the spectrum from being a flat out filthy chaos worshiper to thinking that the Lion is the one who betrayed the legion and Luther is the one trying to save it. However, the DA's in the 41st millennia doesn't really give a fk about where on the spectrum the fallen lies. Any fallen out there risks the 1st legion's credibility. So all must be captured and tea bagged so they are safe from the Inquisition and possibly find out what really happened on Caliban. #2 The surviving DAs are descendants from the Lion's fleet (Fallens are all stationed on Caliban), and the Lion sees "loyalty as its own reward". Though he really wanted that War Master title, but that's him and his "daddy thinks Horus is more loyal than me and I am supposed to be the most loyal of all", so there is no way the Lion would go traitor. It is more than safe to assume that 41k DAs are loyalists. They are just so loyal and loyally afraid of the truth being revealed that they do stuff that borders heresy to protect themselves; this irony is, in fact, a major theme of the DA. #3 While most chapters generally tell the inquisition to fk off, the DA would go as far as to make inquisitors disappear if they stray too close to the truth. This is something that most other chapters (if not all others) would not have dared to do. So yes the whole taking heretical actions to protect their loyalty as mentioned above.
Great stuff, thanks for elaborating. I'm not super knowledgeable about the dark angels so its good to get a follow up on the topic. The difficult thing about making an inquisitor disappear is while it could easily be considered heresy to cross an inquisitor, it also isnt all that unusual. The difference between having issue with a member of the inquisition and full blown (anti emperor) heresy are pretty far apart topics. I would argue that although 41st millennium dark angels are very secretive and hide shameful acts of the past, it really doesnt make them heretics. They still fight for the emperor and work for the good of the imperium. Those dark angels that left the chapter (even if for good intentions) abandoned the cause and collaborated with the enemy. This makes them heretics in my book (just like the alpha legion). It doesnt matter if theyre secretly helping the imperium.
