Last argument of Chaos (battle deployment)

    Dont get me wrong, I LOVE to play against chaos these days, both factions are more or less balanced against each other. SM wins like 50% of time and Im satisfied with that.

    Nonetheless, I just coudnt refuse to post this screenshot. And I call it "the last argument of chaos " (like the writings on XVIII century cannons, just instead of "chaos" was the word "kings"). The idea behind this ancient writing was that when all the options (like diplomacy) fails, kings order to deploy armies and most deadly cannons, of course. The thing is, in most dire situations CSM can actually drastically change the flow of battle and overall winning rate against SM..They just need to do THIS:

    In skirmishes this is a setup of total domination. 80% of chars can cap and they are on the same level of melee as a ground assault. SM can spawn 13 GA assaults in such situation, but they will totally gimp themselfs with inability to cap points.

    Solution could be..still..give CAP device to ground assault with sword and pistol, as an exchange to shield. Its good that chaos rarely plays this setup now, but if they would want..they can dominate the field. Plasma guns or storm bolters wount win against such a melee train, not even talking about bolter.

  2. For me, this actually just tells one thing about the game:
    Melee rules, Ranged are fools.

    I mean, why wouldn't they go all melee? It's stronger by far, it's easier (you don't have to aim, Aimlock does that for you) and if you can RMB spam it, you best every range character.

    And of course, with the fact that Chaos melee can capture points, what do you want more?

    I say, make Ranged viable again, and balance will become better

    Going to second @DrDooManiC

    Playing Chaos there is little to no reason to play a regular traitor right now. Havoc weapons do the ranged part far better and traitor assault/sorcerers can just as easily cover the heavies as Tacs can.

    I do enjoy the Tac/Traitor weapons and all I play on Loyalist is Tac marine, but the point of playing Tac/DA/Shoota/Traitor is to be a front line ranged character who can at least hold their own in melee. Right now the latter isn't happening like it should...so we're left with the ranged option, in which case why not just go Heavy and kill things faster?

  4. Played a Lash premade of at least 10 people a few times last night.

    Traitors/Sorcs. All day.

    Power Swords, Force Swords up my Orky ass. All day.

    FELT GOOD.

    One of the problems, imho, is that Tacticals/ DA/ Shootas/ Traitors, unlock weapons that offer other playstyles, but are not direct upgrades of their basic weapons (horizontal progression), while Traitors Assaults and Sluggas unlock some weapons that are upgrades of the basic one (vertical progression).

    If all the combats were knife vs chainsword, would be much more balanced, but the reality is that most of the melee fights are knife vs power sword/ axe/ maul/ electrified choppa.

    Melee classes doesn't "feel" the difference between ranged weapons as much as tacticals "feel" (in their faces) the difference between melee weapons.

    Aim lock is pretty worthless unless you are sneaking up on someone from behind and want to make sure your charged hit lands since a simple roll will move the person your "aim locked" on out of sight and the lock doesn't carry with it so your facing the wrong way and giving them a brilliant chance to stab you in the back

    Speaking as someone who plays both chaos marine and ground assault - if you are ranged and are dying to fast attack spam then you have already fucked up by letting them get so close to you, you have a ranged weapon the idea is to use it at range

    I hate to be this guy, but I have to be this guy, but that setup should not be viable for SM. Some things should just be locked out of factions as part of asymmetrical balance. If such a thing were given to Space Marines then I would expect access to vengence round stormbolters and stalker mods for Chaos in exchange.

    Or a shield, I want a shield.
    I see you met Varra's terror squad, the command squad runs mostly ranged barring myself.

  10. ... Like in capture points? Im sorry, but i have to go there from time to time to capture stuff.
    When playing chaos of course, i can use the GA, but for LSM and Eldar, there is not much of a choice i am afraid
