Sidearm needs to happen soon for all Devastator and Havocs. Lascannon works fine and the current model keeps us from having to endure anti infantryt sniper shenanigans with the Lascannon. We already have enough shenanigans with one anti tank weapon that's turned into an anti melee power house the Melta.
Heavy's and their future counterparts for the other races need help in general right now(based off current Heavy). I'm already not helping my team by being unable to capture points. Add into that awful melee potential, slowest moving sprint/walk, worst evasion abilities and general need of a large open area to make use(safely anyway) of most of the weapons available to the class(and in this specific case a weapon that is only good at one thing) and we have a problem. I say this is a problem because this game is clearly going to be built around leveling up and unlocking stuff on specific classes/roles. I don't want to feel like my main class of choice is a hindrance to play at all times because of the map etc. Don't guilt me into being a Tactical. Edit: Actually after reading the patch notes and the monstrous vehicle respawn timer increase the Lascannon and by extension Heavies just became even less desirable as there will be far less vehicles on the field and Lascannon is a dead weapon. I think we need to be able to swap loadouts in game without respawning, maybe at a Rhino or supply crate or something.
@Dreadspectre Well no matter what, you can't really say that plasma cannons aren't noticable in combat. Sure, operated by scrubs they blow team mates just as much as opponents and overcharged for big ball of doom often blow up the user himself(lovely projectile collision...), but its the heavy bolter and LC that struggles in self defense, plasma cannon is perfectly fine(do not read that as equal to) to fend off literally any other weapon user, unless the distance is too high or you were ambushed.
It's true PC is good, I can't deny that haha. I still can't cap that point though or stop the cap which, really, is far more important to winning the match.
Well, this is where team effort comes into play. Find smart tactical/traitor/MoN and cooperate. This isn't really that uncommon to see on CSM side. Playing LSM feels like playing with 15 solo players who care only for K/D ration with random exceptions.
You only need 1 Tactical to cap the point, given it's a team game, you shouldn't wander alone trying to cap point by yourself anyway.
Hmm... I'm thinking maybe increase the charge time and add a slight delay (0.5 - 1 sec) between the moment you shoot and the time it takes for the laser to leave the barrel, making the laser pointer bigger would also help in warning infantry. I see no problem if the weapon can one shot infantry that are standing still (their fault for not keeping map awareness in mind and staying mobile) but it should be next to impossible to hit a running/sprinting infantry unit. It's a heavy, big laser cannon that does insane amounts of damage and it should feel as such. Make it slow and hard/tricky to hit small moving targets with so the only easy opponents you can take on are large targets (such as vehicles) or targets that are standing still for long periods of time. Alternatively, maybe remove the zoom scope so it's hard to aim at small targets at long distances?
It's doing its job as an ANTI-TANK weapon. Why should we change it into a sniper rifle again? You can't kill inf with it doesn't mean it's the problem. You don't upgrade your Havoc with Lascannon to deal with inf spam in DoW2, you shouldn't do that in EC either. HB struggling in self-defense? I play HB all the time, unless you catch me off guard with Melta or Melee, I doubt that you will find me struggling in self-defense. Also, Dev/Havoc are support, if you find yourself alone with no ally around, you're doing something wrong. Also, awareness is important, I see a lot of Dev/Havoc just brace their HB and pay no mind to their surrounding at all, which get them killed as a result.
I voted no. Essentially because the damage should be way more important. It should OS a vehicle such as a Rhino and let a Predator with 25% life. As the possibility of aiming for infantry, I'm not very fond of it being used as a sniper. The Stalker Bolter is made for that. Or the Sniper rifle, if the devs includ the LSM Scouts at some point.
^This. Every little fanboy kid and their mom wants to be the cool kid from MLG and take on an entire team. Too bad. I'd love to see the lascannon have SOME use against infantry and other targets, but I also don't want to see it be a super weapon versus vehicles. Currently there's no other means to repair except by repair kits which nobody ever brings because the health pack is too valuable. Chaos Sorc is the only character I will bring a repair kit on. Needless to say, there's now less spots to hide rhinos and tanks from infantry fire. Meaning vehicles die faster and now also take longer to respawn. Not a whole lot of fun if you ask me. Anti-vehicle weapons in games are not supposed to be equivalent. They're supposed to do damage yes, but not be on even footing with the tank itself. And please for the love of god do not bring tabletop into this.
