least of all the party that sold the product and had no issues accepting the money. lets be honest here, a big...BIG game was talked, and very little came of those ideas. "oops certain technical aspects that would make up for the core attraction of this game dont actually exist..oh well what can you do." keep in mind, we went from Dark millenium meets gears of war meets planetside2 in warhammer 40k setting to: lobbyshooter with semi automatic matching. should we take everything thats being said by the devs trying to sell their game as gospel? ofcourse not. should we just give em money to make some kinda game set in warhammer 40k then? because thats what you are basically saying. you argue that because dev-process is never set in stone we are silly to be expecting stuff that we were actually buying. we were buying and BHVR was selling. if we cant be expected to believe...well...basically anything they tell us cos dev-process who's to stop them to change this into a massively online android app? cos yeah...things change right? im overcharging the example a bit but my point is, where does one draw a line, what is reasonable and what is nitpicking? we looked at the menu, pointed out a pizza with pepperoni, cheese and what not, we saw the ingredients being put in an oven and what came out was a quiche lacking half the ingredients. a quiche does resemble a pizza sure, but its not really the same now is it? so maybe you're not sucha savvy streetwise adviser, but instead a perfect gullible customer who never speaks up anyway, forks over his cash and then sighs: ah well...what can you do.
This article is the only inside look at a game development in crunch time I've ever read. It looks brutal, and I am glad I don't have to do it. I am also glad I don't have to deal with the repercussions of cutting and pushing I get people are pissed over not getting what they want, and it sucks open world sounded sweet, but I think the reaction of the community right now might be a reason not to run a transparent development process. Criticisms directed at cut content aren't meant to be personal attacks, but they can easily feel like personal attacks when it is your decision or product being questioned. The folks calling each other names should probably take a deep breath and go catch some pokemon or something and come back with a little clearer heads.
I don't see how the community would be improved if everyone swooned at every bit of news, including disappointing news, instead of, you know, giving critical feedback. Sounds to me like an environment where cuts are no big deal. Today my feedback is negative because the news is negative. Development may be hard but bad news is still bad news. BTW, to all of you still arguing about who is being childish, you'll find the answer in the mirror.
I actually wrote a post about what my thoughts were and you guys decided to dog pile on me with your negativity. So there's that. But if you want to keep playing the victim then feel free. I certainly don't feel sorry for you.
Ouch, I remember those forums...dark days. The differences that I have noticed are that the dev team actually answers questions (albeit mostly soft questions or repeats), changes their mind openly and quickly, and hasn't asked for any more money from the players. I hope they don't end up with a train wreck like MWO and I don't see that happening given there attempts to communicate.
Just a little update: - turkey has been postponed to post-Thanksgiving - mashed potatos are also post-Thanksgiving - and the green beans als also post-Thanksgiving - actually all the side-dishes and the gravy are post-Thanksgiving - But don't worry: Dessert will come as a free expansion. Eventually. The good news: We will have knives, forks, plates and Hot Dogs for Thanksgiving.
I dont think you get the full picture here. It isnt about not getting what I want (purely speaking for myself now) it is ultimately about the direction the game is taking, how things are dealt with, etc. I worry about the game. I see only minor chitchat about this and that in streams and how EA is sucha huuuuuge succes. 255 concurrent players yesterday. I can just change my mind and join the choir singing BHVR's praises and how i should crawl at their feet thankful for their epic work, but fact will remain we will get a barebone release of the game come launch and that worries me. Instead of a meaningful dialogue, the devs put out a list with more soon to be options and what not for post launch, and the player/forum base splits between critical people and people who keep supporting the game. But guess what, right now by typing this i AM suporting the game. I keep noticing that the more insulting attitudes and namecalling come from the people who are defending the current course.
