Am I the only one who always expects a Half Life 3 announcement when he sees an image of Gabe Newell with the text "It's happening"? Curse these expectations. Tonight is always the night for me ;_;
you think they would announce on the forums something like "check your emails, alpha invites were sent" or something like that when they send them and i really hope i get one
I'm sure Alpha invites will be sent via mail, there will be different stages of game Alpha/Beta - I think we have a long wait before we see anything Alpha/Beta related
Expect a little utility to collect data on your system before the invites go out, so that they can get a broad range of systems to test against. some developers just do this collection after, but I don't think that really ensures a good range of hardware to test on.
Any guesses on whether the alpha/beta will be PC only? I know it's being developed for consoles but it seems like we're pretty far away from learning if Sony/Microsoft are going to play ball with the cross-platform servers.
It will probably be PC only, I've never heard of any company ever doing public alpha/beta on consoles. they keep that in-house because they don't have to worry about configurations with consoles. Plus, as you said, we have no idea if it will make it to consoles. so start saving for a good rig.
Thanks. Yeah, Halo: Reach was the only beta I've ever played on a console. I've already decided that if this doesn't come to console I'll be getting a new gaming laptop. If I can find one that's my version of affordable.
