No you wouldn't. If Space Marine were to use servers, those servers would've been shut down during THQ's bankruptcy.
Ummm, if they provided the ability to make listen servers, there would be no problem, we had UT2k4 playing up until last year as internet providers or even your average Joe was able to host a server (many games never even have company hosted dedicated servers, and they run fine on player hosted servers). THQ decided against this type or product... and why would they do that? For the same reason companies always do it, they don't want to spend the $$$. P2P was what consoles were going to use, that was good enough for PC.
When it was first announced that the Captain's Pack was the "highest" tier I was hopeful that meant you could actually get the highest number of founder items (ideally a complete set per faction as you mentioned.) Unfortunately, with this current pricing model, the "highest" pack is looking just to be a drop in the bucket, which is what I was initially afraid of. I did a very brief, non-scientific adjustment of the prices that would be required to bring it around $35 per faction outfitted (on initial release Founder's gear) and the result is quite different than the current price model, but still fair and rewarding (for an already fully funded B2P game,) in my personal opinion. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fiapgm1Ypm13N-9jmlb3mejce0oRFB4Z3eLSMZWD6SU/edit?usp=sharing
You see, even if the faction total rolled up to 110$ that it does it still would be ok in my book to some degree (not overly happy but hey, i bought the Captains it should seal the deal for one faction right?). The deal is we got 18 months of RT store updates ahead of us, with god knows how much more stuff. Heck you can already see the two new items pending there for 10k (10$) each (banner and emblem). It truly will become a drop in a bucket.
Personally I'm stuck with the maths, I bought the 40 Euro pack (including tax), the warrior pack to start with, maybe I'll upgrade later maybe not. I could spend 80 Euros and have bought the next pack up, but it wouldn't get me any of the exclusive gun models so it's a quandary. It would cost me 80 Euros for the Sergeant pack without a gun, or 80 Euros for the warrior pack with a gun, but buying the gun won't get me an earlier wave access... I'm of the opinion that certain items should come with certain packs instead of having to spend extra, hell if I bought the pack priced at 333 Euros plus tax I still would have to spend another 40 Euros on a gun. So other than earlier access (first or second wave) what encourages me to buy bigger packs?
Reposting from the other thread: 35 bucks in DOTA2 gets you a new character model, voice, ability sounds, particle effects, animations, etc, or 2.50 for a full alt costume. League gives you the same full overhaul for around 20, and an entire alt costume for 10 bucks or less. Or new characters for like 13 bucks. And with your last project, Star Citizen, they got full on space ships. DoW2 has an entire army reskinned for 7 dollars, Space Marine you get full reskins for a couple bucks. Eternal Crusade by contrast has a bolter with tape wrapped around it for 35 dollars. Or a single sword for 15 dollars. If you're going to gouge us on microtransactions (I miss the days when the Horse Armor DLC was universally mocked. Whatever happened to gaming?) at least give us a bit more bang for our buck. A space marine Iron Halo with a heavenly glow, some sort of CSM helm with warpfire, etc, would probably have been better received. If your payment model is really "pay2cool," make the stuff cool. If you don't have the resources to do so, drop the price. The items are both under quality and over priced, which is saying something considering how overpriced most DLC already is.
Thats a pretty good point too. For all intents and purposes (until proven otherwise by the devs and the 3D renditions of the item models) you get only a breastplate with no currently known aesthetic features (glowing, bleeding, fire etc) for 15$. If we do end up being unable to sway their minds towards more reasonable prices, then these items that will cost so much need to WOW the people who are expected to buy them. I guess being constantly on fire is something that sells the Legionnaire to allot of people, and they will buy it regardless just for that cool factor. If you cant capture the same WOW factor in other gear, i see nothing justifying the price.
My opinion on cosmetic stuff in shops: I personally would never pay 35 bucks for one item. Never. And a "limited"-sign in a digital world means nothing, because it is coded and does not cost limited or unique ressources nor alot of time. If it is created once, it is available as much as wanted. It is limited in the world it is going to be used and if someone turns off the servers, then they are gone. Why do I say that? Because 35$ is much real life money and here, where I live you have to work a couple of hours to have this money together. Alot of publishers forget that. And alot of players forget that too, because many of them are addicted. I know many people who have spent all their money to games and some of them lost therefor very important things in life. Sure, it is their own fault, but some games should reconsider their pricing policy and ask themselves, if they are really giving back an equal amount of stuff to their customers for the prices they want? If I spend money for a game, then I want to do that with a good feeling. I give my rl-time for something I want to support and therefor I get a little bit back. But I really would have a bad feeling with 35$. I would pay for a little weapon a maximum of 10$. And that is the pain treshhold.
In PS2 Rifles cost from 5 to 7 euros (even though they can be unlocked by a regural grind), armour cost varies from 1,5 to 5 euros. Eternal Crusade IMO will flourish even more through custom made items (helmets, armours, custom backpacks, camos...) There also comes a question about Steam Version of Eternal Crusade. Why Steam? As I remember when I wanted to ditch my standalone client PS2 for Steam one, I couldn't login with my existing character and the only reason why I even bothered to is because on Steam for the game in question there is even more custom made content that can be purchased and equiped on my character that isn't available through a regular store. So there's that little bargle, if I wanted to, will I be able to purchase content for the game via Steam or will I be confined to BeH's client version. The prices are high, 35 bucks for a Bolter? REALLY?!? Does it come with a builtin tetris and machine spirit that prevents jamming and controlls the firing sequence so that the crosshair spreads more slower?! Or perhaps it comes with a golden muzzle brake or maybe there are kraken bolts included!?!?! Someone needs to do a recheck of prices here. I was proud when I bought the "Sergeant Pack" and I stand by my word that the prices for the Founder Packs are ok, but anything beyond at this moment ... too early to tell. Also, here's another interesting example from Space Marine, Golden Relic Bolter price.
