Its silly to be honest, with the lack of good games coming out, and games that do release being really buggy or way delayed, both Sony and MS could really benefit from a joint project. Final Fantasy had Pc ps3 and 4 players all together so maybe Sony would consider it.
Yeah, but a competitive PvP world like this would give them a real case of the tremors. A bad case scenario would be that the keyboard/mouse combination utterly destroys controllers in most situations. A live test of this long-held myth proving it to be true wouldn't do Sony or MS any particular favours (note: EC devs have suggested, predictably, that KBM is superior for ranged classes where controllers have an edge in melee) A terrible case scenario would be that the players of one console hammer the players of the other into the dirt and cheer loudly over their corpses, with guilds saying things such as "not open to XBox noobs. Buy a PC or a proper console". Longer-term, they probably don't want to encourage too much cross-platform activity. The more that the games market becomes platform agnostic, the easier it would be for future rivals to put a cheaper "me too" console into the mix, and the benefit of having large chunks of services and back catalogues of platform-specific games holding people to a certain console becomes eroded. Also, Microsoft has a pathological hatred of collaboration, and Sony seems hell-bent on single-handedly declaring war on North Korea, so maybe the omens aren't too auspicious at the moment.
I don't know how they expect either of the systems to handle large fights and if the game has to be scaled back to run well then I'd really hope they just drop the potato ports. That's the main thing that bugs me about the idea, my PC is far stronger than the current gen consoles and if the game is going to be linking the systems together it's going to be dragged down by the weakest system.
That's a good point from whale. Yeah I have played on both types of control schemes and I think both have advantages and disadvantages.
Kanthric has made the best point yet: They want us all to play together, but it's nigh impossible seeing how mouse and keyboard is just better when it comes to aiming. In a game that's, to a large part, a shooter. This will create a massive imbalance. If they ever decide to bring it to consoles, then segregation will be a good thing. Maybe not between consoles (like Sony and Microsoft) but there definitely needs to be a divide between PC and the rest.
Nope, EC will be 50% melee and 50% range as it seems as of now, and controllers own K+M at melee, it's hell of a lot easier playing Dynasty Warrior with a controller than K+M.
Games can be made compatible with mouse and keyboard on console, consoles themselves support keyboards for faster text input. So shouldn't be hard to get console players KBM support. Another thing, after playing Space Marine for years on PS3, playing as an Assault on my mates PC was surprisingly... faster. Mainly I can quickly turn my camera to where I want, whereas controller I can't do that unless I want a ridiculous sensitivity that I can't aim with (especially with aim assist off, which I do to prep for EC). So honestly, the controller isn't really better in melee, and I can be a lot more accurate with a pistol in the air with KBM.
