    Fact eh?
Link me to the location, articles and people who compared PS2 to WoW.
Please do the same with PS1 while you are at it.
I as of memory do not recall a single person ever comparing the two.

So EVE or Star Citizen is compared to WoW also?
MMO is not only themepark, gear depended, and all those mechanics that WoW, and it's clones use. That's how mainstream MMORPG's work and will continue to work since that makes money.
But MMO is not only MMORPG.
A WoW killer can only be a similar to WoW game that uses the same mechanics and pulls crowds away from WoW.
How can EC do that when it's mostly aimed at very different crowds?
  3. The only thing that will ever kill WoW is Blizzard. There have been numerous "WoW killers" and every single one of them tanked, most going F2P after a while.

The only comparison and competition for EC are games like Planetside.

Battlefront simply has certain gameplay elements that are very close to us.
Here is a better recent example Firefall , characterized as a massively multiplayer skill-based shooter, also third person. A shooter, not an RPG. The difference being the most important thing. The only thing we come close to wow with is our scale.
I don't think it is reasonable to compare a shooter to an RPG. Any journalist who does that should be ignored for he doesn't understand what he is talking about.
Ontopic we are definitely not a WoW-killer. Never were intedend to be , never were meant for the same audience.

Oh no, I don't think so.

Eternal Crusade sounds very different. It shares a camera angle and scale of it's multiplayer, but that's about it.

In the modern market, saturated as it is with online multiplayer games, comparing every 'massively' game to WoW is no longer really a meaningful comparison.

Honestly I think better comparisons would be to other pvp focused sci-fi MMO's like planetside 2 and EvE Online.

(Although I think too many people are projecting planetside 2 onto Eternal Crusade. I personally do not expect a 4-way 40k reskin of planetside 2, nor do I think such a game would work well. This does not mean there are no elements of PS2 EC could successfully... homage... but PS2 has issues that are likely to be exacerbated by a 4 way population split. )

The only thing EC and WoW have in common is that they are both MMOs... So no I HIGHLY doubt EC will make a dent in the ever declining pop of WoW.

maybe I wasn't clear, I am not stating that wow and EC are in the same sub genre of MMO video games, but they do pull will pull from the same population of MMO gamers. Gamers who enjoy the experience of playing with hundreds if not thousands of players simultaneously, the same people who play games like planetside 2will play EC some of them at some point will try EC. And similarly people who regularly play WOW will try out eternal crusade at some point. My point is will EC be able to attract and keep interested these gamers.

It's just like WoW. Without community, as in personal friends in a guild or to level/dungeon with, it can get really old really quickly. I suggest getting some buds to get it with you, especially since it's free, or try and find and Outfit (Essentially a guild) that's active and new-guy friendly.

You cherry picked a random person that said something stupid (that doesent even get validated by anyone in that thread). Granted i was a bit vague, i wasnt stating any individual person, but an actual following of people big enough that share this sentiment. There isnt, otherwise there would be articles, which there arent.

If i go on a random forum and tell everyone that pie is the same thing as bread that doesent make me right, they being baked goods is the only correlation between the two.
  9. I don't think you thought that seriously, anyway it was funny. : D

to be honest you asked if i could find people discussing it, so I did not trying to be nitpicky here. My point to all of you is that EC will be compared in time to other mmos, WOW being the biggest I assume that someone somewhere will find a comparison between the two games. Whether or not the two games are comparable is irrelevant they most likely will be compared.

I am not saying EC and WOW are the same thing, they obviously arent but they are MMOs so they will be compared.
