Iron Halo Effectiveness

Can we get some discussion going on the Iron Halo and how it barely feels unique for something that is supposed to be a small scale void shield generator?

I was expecting some unique function from it rather than just a flat out armour boost, something like a new form of protection that adds a shield bar to your UI, this shield could absorb the same (or more, since the iron halo is pretty mediocre atm) damage as the halo but has the unique property of capping the maximum damage you can take per hit until the shield is destroyed.

Essentially any weapon that hits you will drain the shield, any weapon that hits you and deals damage greater than the value of the shield's overall health will be reduced in damage to that of the exact value of the shield's health and the shield will break down and no longer protect you, include a long recharge or as long as is necessary to prevent it from being OP as all hell and I think it'd be perfect, might even make veterans worth using as you might not get instantly killed every few seconds.

(ex. iron halo has 60 durability, you are hit by a charged plasma cannon shot that deals 300 damage, damage is lowered to 60 as a result of halo, halo breaks from the hit and you are left "vulnerable" but alive, should prevent stun from heavy weapons while halo is active as well though as otherwise it'll end up fairly useless with how fast plasma cannons charge atm.)

Damage shouldn't be lowered against weapons that deal less than the halo's overall value, so a heavy bolter or plasma gun would still deal normal damage but it would count as damage to the player before the armour and health values take a hit, essentially you're tougher but it doesn't punish people with weaker weapons, it just prevents instant death.

So this way it's not ridiculously powerful and it doesn't make you invincible but it would prevent you, especially on veteran classes, from being instakilled by plasma cannons, lascannons, etc. It'd make the 400 - 600 LP investment worthwhile as you would be able to certainly increase durability, especially on fortress maps.

I think this would be a really nice way to make the Iron Halo more worthwhile, because right now the halo is pretty boring with just a flat out armour upgrade and it's barely worth the price for the protection it offers.
  2. Plongo Subordinate

It basically soaks up 1-2 more range hits. Veterans at the moment are useless. Would be nice if LSM had a lot more armour and adding your idea on top of that for vets as well.

In my opinion it should give a separate armour bar. even if its still only two hits. it can recharge separate to main armour.

i just spend 100 points yesterday for the iron halo and 200 for the sanguinary priest halo and....... this things are just worthless is better to use the Relic armor than this halos and even that only veterans can posible load that amount of LP, so at the moment we are in a disadvantage in terms of resistance, damage and uniqueness. The only thing i see that we are better than the other Factions/races is the Role Playing, oh by the Emperor you need to see the Brothers from Dorn, or even me whit my Blood Angel xD

For the record, every faction has these. The most expensive thing in the "general" advancement path for Eldar is the Burning Rune - pretty much the same thing. It's 400 LP for +40 armor, so you can't possibly fit such a thing in your loadout, etc.

A shame, as it's a very cool rune lore-wise, implying an unusual connection the Eldar war god and all that cool stuff. Just... not realistically useful, just like the iron halo.

  6. they said the halo and purity seals would be the assymmetrical balance for the god marks but I have yet to see that.

Do your ''halos and seals'' have negative stats?
  8. Furiel Furiel Arkhona Vanguard

They don't. What's your point? That they should cause Chaos marks do or that the Iron Halo is a great wargear piece?

    Cause neither makes much sense.

If we go the first route, than by all means, let's give LSM autocannons, second capping class, ranged heals and poison, while giving CSM the shields and insta-heals (if that's still what both factions want, not keeping track on the current bitching theme). Let's throw the asymmetrical balance out of the window, but yeah, everyone will be on exactly equal terms.

Secondly, Iron Halo ATM is a pure waste of the loadout points and I agree with the OP.
So is the Relic Armor by the way, which costs a shitton of LP and is just meh.

It's be nice if Veterans were unlimited uses, but restricted to one load out the way they are now. That way, they're not grotesquely uselss and provides a static kind of specialization that won't be overshadowed by Terminators and heroes.
