Meltas are allready bad except at dealing with vehicles ,making them bad at dealing with vehicles aswell will kill the weapon.
Was playing as a fire dragon and a dark reaper last night. Vehicles are not at all difficult to kill if you have the correct tools. So many quad-kills.
Meltas are not bad. They are bad at killing infantry. If you nerf its AV capabilities it will all boil out to how much better it is compared to other AV equivalents that exist. With all other AV equivalents nerfed with 24th patch i doubt this will be a problem, more like the gun being brought in the line with all other weapons. However, nerfing gun into oblivion is the go-to way of rebalancing it back to usefulness. And melta AI capabilities can be improved, its just no one is bothered doing this right now.
People only use them as personal taxis because there's no incentive to roll around in the tank aside from tactical advantage. There is no transport driver XP reward or commendation. No ability to customize a vehicle and make it important to you. Hell, even using the weapons on a vehicle to get kills has gimped XP compared to non-vehicle weapons. A chaos Havoc's Autocannon killing someone get 100 xp, a predator Autocannon gets 75. I disagree again. I have to side with Galen on this, soloing vehicles on foot is a matter of wit. Wait until the vehicle is empty, move when the attention is off of you and get in there hard. Melta weapons are made to destroy the defensive structure of the 41st millennium. They are made to turn fortified walls into pools of molten slag (something Melta weapons are useless for if my experiments at Harkus are any indication), so if you let one get near you to where you can't fire that's bad driving. Have someone in the drivers seat ready to book it at all times, then worry about the guns. I dare anyone on this forum to tell me they've never spawned a tank then acted as driver AND gunner. If you aim for a vehicle's soft spot with that thing you damn well better bore a hole the size of a guardsman's head through it.
Fire dragon cant do much except vehicle hunting and he got a nerf to the melta bundle (i mean that price was ridiculus). And the dark reaper is supposed to be able to deal with them aswell with ...launcher thing weapon eldar crap he has!
But that's my point. I HAVE the right tool. An Anti Vehicle Axe, purpose built for Anti Vehicle duty. Yet it's like a foam sword.
It´s fine. Some weapons are anti heavy armor, and some other are anti-vehicle. Of course we need heavier infantry to make better use of those, but hell, the difference bettwen a power axe vs a MoN veteran with armor is HUGE.
That happened because players cheesed the fuck out of vehicles, wether it was Pred sniping from spawn or rhino outside a cap point or a WS inside a point .These "nerfs" in xp were the result of the community.
True about the Fire Dragon, but have you ever seen a pair of those roaming together in a Wave Serpent? They'd drive up, pop out, and unload into an enemy vehicle. It's be scrap in a heartbeat without the need for Meltabombs. then they'd be back inside their vehicle and cruising about again until another showed up. Fun story, I got an Eldar player pissed off at me the other day. I was a Tactical with a melta gun and I engaged a Wave Serpent outside A on Pegasus near the Attacker deployment zone incline. Tried to sneak up on him, noticed too late he wasn't unmanned. Thought I was gonna get crushed. He tried shooting me with Cannons, noticed I was under his minimum range and backed up. Thought I was a dead Ultraberry. He proceeds to attempt to ram me several times rather than switch to his Cannons again. I stood in front of a wall and survived between the prongs of his vehicles until he exploded from Melta fire to the cockpit. Roadkilling has made the Xenos lazy I think...
Can you tell me how is this in any way skillfull? Running straight to the vehicle when its empty and burning its rear end or circling around while gunner foolishly tries to reach you when its already too late? I find it stupid that you instagib vehicles in 0.5 seconds. If you dont i dont really see any possibility of discussion here, you must be an eldar player, who have 0 issues escaping melta with manned vehicle. Yeah, yeah, glorious bla-bla-bla. Vehicles cant shoot directly below them for reasons being melee AV to be viable. SO what, cant drive vehicle anywhere since you cant shoot directly below you? Oh, wait, i am sorry, dont drive any non-eldar vehicles. Last ones can at least turn and drive away faster then meltagunner can circle and pursue them. Yeah, waste one player and let him suffer horrible unfun uneventfull gameplay so that he can try to protect the vehicle this time when one meltagunner redeploys from killing your undermanned teammates to his melta loadout to kill your spawn point. And enjoy him succeed if he approaches you through cover spread across the whole map, unless you are eldar or, to the lesser degrees, orks, who have enough firepower to down infantry running to them. Tear holes all day long, but dont instagib vehicle just because you stupidly ran to it without any chance of retaliation or reaction.
