Just gunna throw this out there... Having a 3+ Invulnerable save is the same as having a 66.66% Dodge chance.

Dodge is a Videogame Equivalent of Invulnerable save. It negates all damage, should the RNG ( Random Number Generation ) make you a winner.

For a 3rd Person Shooter... I doubt highly a Dodge Mechanic will be viable... It could be a chance for taking half of that damage recieved, alot like a block mechanic.

More than likely however, anything that is Defensive in nature will be used in a very straightforward manner... such as a % of damage reduction. Typically, In RPG's, Or any game with heavy customization, Defenses will add Multiplicatively. It is Different from Diminishing returns... although similar. Of the 2, i'm unsure what BE will use... but i'm quite sure it will be one of the 2... Not gear effects that stack on top of one another perfectly ( So people bad at math cry, probably. )

OF course, there's the chance for other effects like health regen... and other stuff i don't care about right now... but Dodge would be the closest thing to Invulnerable save... and shooters don't typically use it.

As awesome as Dark Souls was, this game shouldn't be Dark Souls in Space: The MMO

You realize there were posts talking about Dark Souls from the Devs, in terms of Melee combat? Something they were looking into.

You're right... probably not that clunky of gameplay... and as for itemization... Dark Souls / Demons souls... was interesting to me. It was different from most other games of its Genre, in structure at least.

Ah, Anyway... I don't think Dark Souls had the same Dodge Mechanic i speak of... The one i refer to is from World of Warcraft... Diablo 3 etc. You don't actually do anything to make a dodge happen... it just happens, and doesn't interfere with your actions.

I was referring to the overuse of the dodge mechanic more than how it worked. Besides, I believe combat rolls are already a gameplay mechanic (see the meet the team video, with the gameplay on the screen) so it wouldn't really make sense for an auto roll

Yeah i only just seen the vid. I'm fairly certain now... armor and stats will confer damage reduction in terms of defence. It's great... i really don't like too much RNG in shooters. Trying to no scope was random enough for me.

Except that we're not talking about everyone picking a class, we're talking about the "best" players being able to permanently unlock high-powered gear for their use whenever they want, whereas everyone else is locked out from this option.

Personally I think everyone should be able to play them, but get rid of that Vertical progression "hero" business. It'll balance itself out. But yes, not a single group should be able to just use stuff like TDA, but everyone should be able to use the TDA if they wish

I think it worked well in Spacemarine game, Iron halo (4+ invul) gave a "shild bonus" and higher dammage reduction while shield was up.

I'd like to point something out here, using Space Marines as an example, you start the game playing your SM, if your character is ranged based you have power armour, frag and krak grenades and a boltgun (with a bayonet or combat knife for close combat). If your character is melee based you get a suit of power armour, a bolt pistol and a chain sword plus your grenades.

That's it, special equipment is extremely rare and limited in ration, the iron halo was an item that could be bought once for one officer per battle force, even something a simple as Terminator armour was only worn by 8 - 10 marines in a battle force of 60 marines.

Allowing access to special war gear for everyone is going to render it pointless and create a game where the PvP is based around equipment.

Also this is not an FPS nor an MMO but a mix of the 2, I don't expect a huge selection of weapons to be able to flick through in a Quake 2 style FPS, I expect to have to work for months to get a weapon upgrade.
