Yes i would like to see special protective fields in action in game as well. Like shining bright Holy Iron Halo that inspire ave and fear in friends and foe alike. Had to post dubble reply as i did not see that you wrote about refractor fields and so you also return to the thread to see my last (previous) post.
Something like this could be very cool. High-ranking veteran warriors on the battlefield who survive hits that would have killed any other lesser warrior. I think that would be a cool passive ability to have in game. It reminds me of the seemingly miraculous events that do happen to special characters in the 40k universe, like when Lord Commander Solar Macharius survived being shot in the chest by a Chaos Marine's Bolter because the bolt somehow failed to both fully penetrate and detonate. He should have been killed, but he wasn't. A miracle from the God Emperor? Pure chance? Of course, these miraculous events should be somewhat rare in the game and only happen to high-ranking or skilled veteran players who receive this special passive ability, that could be called The Emperor Protects or something similarly named. Each faction would have a special ability like this for it's renowned players.
I always thought a great idea would be to just have that same "lightsaber" effect of sparks when a projectile would hit it. That would be a pretty sweet visual
The way I think Invul (and armor ) should work Different pieces of armor have armor values (much like in TT) except that certain parts of the armor (such as the pauldrons) have lower armor ratings then the chestplate. Weapons with a certain AP can penetrate armor of the same value in 2-3 hits and reduced damage, while a weapon with a lesser AP would take several hits to even damage the armor, and at the same time a weapon with greater AP would be able to bust through the armor in one shot and damage the wearer. So a lasgun shooting at power armor is going to do very little to the chestplate, but still may be able to penetrate the chinks in the armor or even the helmet after a few shots. The way invulnerability saves would fit into this is that they are greater than all AP values. Meaning that no one shot (even a lascannon) can penetrate it and do damage to the wearer. This means that someone shooting at a person with an invul save would have to aim at unprotected locations on the enemy in order to do damage.
I think most force field inv save items should be like shields in most games were they are must be depleated first and can recharge. And maybe if there full or mostly full you cannot be killed in one shot to represent them being allowing a space marine to survive being shot by a lascannon Also for the shields you had up a rosarius is the same as a iron halo but for chaplains and collar of Khorne should also be unlocked through devotion to khorne and just be high immunity from warp powers
Minor stuff like Iron halos and such, yes, but they shouldn't make a huge difference. The entire purpose of the classes and progression is to branch out laterally, not vertically. They want to make it so that your old weapons will still maintain their relevance, as well as new players not being autokilled by something immediately stronger. By adding horizontal items, they increase the variety, while removing clear advantages that just stack power.
Yuppers. I don't want a Faction Leader to literally survive salvo after salvo after salvo of shots just because he has item X. Lorewise and TT-wise, sure, it's possible, but in terms of a PvP gameplay structure like EC will projectedly have, it's not very fun. If I shoot Eldar Faction Leader up because I was really on my game today with a Bolter with a few modifications, then I want to kill the Eldar Faction Leader, not have the game say 'oops, well, he's a speshul character with hella wargear and lol @ you'.
So you want to obliterate new players 6 motnhs after launch when we all have this stupidly overpowered things? Sounds like an awesome idea to kill the game. What about if the advantage i have 6 months after launch vs someone new to the game is.... 6 months of playing experience, knowing the weakness and strenghts of all classes and stuff like that?
There will probably be some limit to how much wargear we can equip to our characters because they have already stated that there will be special ammunition which most are a pure upgrade, like kraken rounds. So it would be like take the iron halo for more survivablity or kraken rounds so you can kill faster. They have said you can get better things but you will lose something else in return
I think I see what you are saying here. So this buff is just a simple buff that is not completely OP, but you have a higher chance of surviving something horrific, but there is a higher chance that it would fail. So its either, have an awesome story to tell of how you managed to survived a strike that should have killed you, or just be another average kill... Helsreach comes to mind seeing that a chaplain survived having an entire Imperium of Man Cathedral falling on top of him and crawling out alive.
