Dreadnoughts. (chaos and loyalists) It makes sense to have them, right? Somewhere on the battlefield. Here is what we want and don't want - We want to "pilot" them. We don't want them to over powered. We don't want them to be under powered. We don't want them to be unfathomably rare. We don't want them to be littering the battlefield. How do we go about accomplishing all of this? If we viewed it as perhaps... an above hero class. Iconic level, 'class'? World of Warcraft has/had a hero class, deathknights. To prevent them from being spammed (As they started off much more powerful) to play them, it required a player to achieve a certain level. Perhaps we can do this in a similar fashion, but perhaps make it even more extreme/harsher on the prerequisites? Basically maybe make them at a very very high level. Something you've got to SERIOUSLY grind out to play. Because come months into launch and everyone's piloting a dreadnought... not fun. Maybe the same method of policing the amount of Terminators can be applied to dreadnoughts... but doubled. This way you've "earned your honours" and have had fallen on the field of battle and to carry on were interred into the shell of a dreadnought. What are your thoughts, community? Am I wrong for assuming the points I made earlier? Please do not bash the idea into the dust, if you do not like it explain - why? How would you restructure my format/method? Do you have suggestions to layer onto my suggestion? Discuss.
I would suggest the SWG Jedi Route. Something that takes a lot of dedication and skill to achieve as they will be very powerful. You again have to balance it with how often they can be used because eventually a lot of people will unlock it.
The problem with making them obtainable via a certain level is that eventually everyone will have them. Just like DK's in WoW. Everyone at least has 1 toon that allows them access to this. To be honest it needs to be something more for things like the Dreadnought and Terminator Honors. In the Lore these are both highly regarded positions. Not only should they require a Certain LvL but there should be various challenges and/or Missions one must accomplish. When we see these on the battle field these should be an indicator of a Player who has been through Hell and has come back to tell the tale. (Now obviously even with requiring various Challenges and/or Mission Completions there will be the occasional Noob in them but it will definitely make them a Status Symbol as well as a powerful upgrade to ones character). If we look at them separately though the Dreadnought posses an interesting character choice however. These are as the OP stated in the title a Sarcophagus for the crippled warrior to continue into battle with. These are just machines to pilot on a whim. One would have to choose this path for their character (A permanent choice). Where as Terminator Honors is also a Status Symbol for those who have fought countless battles and shown bravery in the face of the Warp. The Terminator armor could be removed. Also something that I mentioned in another thread that could be setup as a obtainable upgrade/status would be Veteran status. Veterans are held in high regard within their Chapters.
The issue is the market right now (At least in the minds of every developer) is that it's all about instant gratification and casualization of the market. There are no real hardcore challenges to unlock the amazing content. You can just spend maybe an hour or two doing it and you get it without much in the way of effort.
Making it something players view in awe and strive to achieve would greatly benefit the community and game. Perhaps it could be unlockable after a certain amount of effort, accuracy, and dedication, but if you are destroyed, you can always achieve it again (with somewhat lesser requirements after the first time), and make it a savor-able experience?
Perhaps have it unlockable at a certain level and after you've completed every "dungeon" at max difficulty?
Dreadnoughts will be unleashed after resources have been aquired and spent, thats all i know And i actualy do want them to be massively OP XD
