The chest piece is usually described as stronger. In lore and in the pen and paper games where game mechanic has to meld with lore. Any place with a joint will be a little weaker and a blow to the neck joint will fuck anyone. Marines can survive a bullet straight through their chest in most cases. Through head is a little different. Eldar will surely have more pen than the standard bolter and get through that armor more easily.

I'll bet Space Marines can't survive a hypervelocity round which pierces one side of their armor but not the other.

Such things tend to, well, bounce around inside the armor. To an external viewer, it looks like they're having convulsions, but really it's just the projectile bleeding kinetic energy every time it ricochets off the inside of the armor.

When that happens, do NOT open their armor to inspect or attempt to treat the injury. They are dead, and their body is, well, there won't be enough left intact for an interment in a dreadnought.

Yes, as far as I know and as far as I understood the concept of classes from all the available official sources SM|CSM players will start game as tactical marines, the rest of classes will be available for a limited time and after gaining enough requisition to use it. It means that whether you like it or not most of the time you will play as a tactical marine (especially in the beginning), which is ok because it reflects the lore and FOC.

But that also means that the only kind of gun a tactical marine will use is bolt pistol or bolter (with possibility of upgrading). Now, everybody who has even basic knowledge about WH40k universe knows that bolter is a pretty powerfull weapon. That doesn't neccessarily mean this fact will be truly reflected in the game for obvious reasons mentioned 6790 times before (I'm not going to repeat myself).

Knowing that most of people will want to use more powerfull guns like lascannons, plasma cannons, heavy bolters etc which means tactical marines may be treated like a neccessary evil, a period of time you have to go through every time to finally get enough requsistion (or wait enough time untill cooldown is over) in order to play your favourite toys: termies, raptors, havocs. So tactical marines will basically become unwanted children of the emperror\Dark Gods.

I'm just speculating now, I hope I'm wrong. We don't have enough knowledge now to rate particular guns but some people already say that bolter should require about 15 rounds or more to take out a regular marine (and no insta death head shots of course), not mentioning heavier classes. About 15 rounds is not a tragedy
but I fear it might be even weaker in the game (that's why i started this topic). If that's the case, bolter won't be satisfactory for all lore lovers and thus the tactical marine class won't be atractive to play (unless tacticals will also have access to special weapons like: plasma guns, flamers or meltas).
  5. True, there are plenty of games that don't have stupid critical hit areas as a mechanic other than for snipers.

Tf2 and ps2 are ones that pop into my head
I wouldn't mind a small bonus to headshots, but not one that takes ttk down from fifteen or a full mag of bolts to three. That's just rediculous.

This isn't an arena cod bf game guys. People are going to be more durable. The games going to be more about tactics strategy and teamwork than your individual ability to point your gun at the right place to get a stupidly powerful damage bonus. Sorry that it's going to take more than four bolts to kill someone. Its just that this isn't twitch Based gameplay, nor is it a game where you will be able to take out a five man squad in seven seconds with just a Bolter.
  6. I interpreted it as being similar to PS2's class system, with terminators being like MAX suits.

Could you link what made you make that guess? If its more than one site then go ahead :)

These are not guesses, it's information based on official sources\interviews and interpretations of different active forum users. Some solutions are not perfectly clear as the devs themselves don't seem to be perfectly clear about them (and they can't be coz it's not even beta yet). Sorry i'm not going to link all possible interviews with Miguel or info from different forums users to you, you can find it yourself if you wish, you may start here, it's a good beginning :

  8. I think it should maybe depedending on your class in terms of headshot like receiving a larger bonus for headshot damage if your say a Ranger or a Scout (They are technically Space Marines they just don't have armor) and then a basic slight damage increase with standard weapons like Bolters and Shuriken catapults

Heavy weapons like heavy bolters and other rapid fire weapons shouldn't matter since your not gonna have time or need to worry about that bonus headshot damage since they will probably be dead in 3 seconds anyways if you concentrate your fire.

This is just IMO but why not make it so lascannons and missile launchers are only available when vehicles show up or you need to use a bit of requisition to get since from a lore standpoint they wouldn't be carrying these kind of weapons unless they knew they were gonna be dealing with Armour support. I don't even understand why Lascannons were in Space Marine and I don't even remember them being in the Campaign and I lack further comprehension as to why people want to be running around with lascannons and missile launchers when they have to watch out for Assault Marines/Raptors/Whatever fast attack class Eldar get /Stormboys who are gonna leave them feeling pretty silly for carrying around a wepaon thats likely to kill them at a close range or be completely useless if they miss one shot

We already know there will be vehicles in EC as well as heavy infantry like termies so heavy weapons are perfectly justifyable.

  10. The idea of forcibly limiting the types of weapons available to players is awful imo. Weapons should be limited by their effectiveness not by resources or presence of enemy forces. If someone wants to run around with a lascannon trying to headshot orks they should be able to. And they should be just as effective as it would be. Not at all. People should be encouraged to use the correct weapons for the correct scenario. Most of the time that should be the bolter.
