Instant Death By Headshot ?

As realistic as it would be, instant death via various means, at least for a mmorpg player - would not come over well. Targeting limbs or a specific part of the body has been done fairly well, I can't say it provided valid strategy in a squad. For the most part, the group would leave the member behind, as opposed to staying around to protect and heal the person. Unless a healer was around that could fix the person. Anyway, it's going to be interesting to see how it works.

If someone manage to headshot me with heavy bolter I agree to instantly die from the 2 million rounds it spit in a second.

Well I don't know about "various means", some things certainly deserve to be instant death: lascannon to the face, the LR's battle cannon, and the demolisher cannon for example. While at the same time some units are tougher than others, so a very tough unit might survive a battle cannon but still get gibbed by a demolisher.

It's just that making headshots a *universal* OHK would open up things like a laspistol killing a Terminator in one shot. That would be what, an 18x headshot multiplier?

It could still be allowed to do more damage, which would result in a OHK if you're hit by a weapon that can kill you in two shots anyway, but auto-killing would be over the top.

As far as the heavy bolter in general goes, I'm not sure how this game will handle it. In both TT and lore, the heavy bolter is stronger (ie should require fewer hits to kill), has a longer effective range, and has a higher rate of fire than the standard bolter. The tradeoff for this is mobility.

Honestly I would hope it's that way in-game too, but it's easy to see people whining that it's an upgrade in every way and getting it nerfed...

I really don't like OHK's. A direct hit from a heavy tank should perhaps be OHK but if the shells explode next to infantry it shouldn't kill them right away.

Maybe some sort of random (super random) number generator for OHKs? If your time is up, hard to fight the fact. Not sure how random it can actually be or what the stats would look like or how the percentage roll out would be.

If mobiltiy is his weakness in comparison with a regular bolter, the heavy-bolter could require 'mounting' (sorry, I can't think of a better word :( ). Meaning you could shoot it while moving, but than it's as slow as a regular bolter with lower accuracy. But you could 'make a stand'. While in this 'stance' couldn't move, but the rate of fire as well as the accuracy goes up.

Somewhat like in Space Marine, I guess.

Regural Bolter is like an assault rifle, heavy bolter is like a MG, in military terms I guess.
In those terms, heavy bolter should be bulkier and heavier than a regular bolter, and it is...

BUT...as a support weapon, it should be a suppression "spray and pray" weapon, with better ROF, longer range, AND lower accuracy...that's the category it should fall into, and there shouldn't be any relation to the bolter (apart from the word "bolter" in the name).

Different, realistic, roles for weapons, so that people don't have to get into comparisons...like the lascannon being used like a sniper rifle...no, it's not...it's an anti armor weapon...big difference there...

The way machineguns usually differentiate from regular assault rifles in games is by forcing the player to be relatively stationary when firing or else the accuracy goes to crap.

In Battlefield/Planetside you need to stand still or deploy your bipod/scope in order to hit any target at range at all and you'll be at a big disadvantage in close quarters as well compared to the easily managable and accurate assault rifles. The upside is that you get a huge ammo pool and once you're in a good spot you can deal a lot of damage to a lot of targets or cause a lot of suppression and area control.

Heavy bolter destroying people at close range and balanced at long range? shouldn't it be the other way around?

Agree with no random jamming and overheating and/or exploding but no randomness about it.
