Instant Death By Headshot ?

    Team work and individual skill don't exclude each other, on contrary, a pack of skilled individuals working together is a deadly force besides even some degree of lone wolfing may also be very beneficial (it is easier to sneak on enemies back and do a little diversion if you do it alone than in a bigger group.) Guys don't be deluded that most of players will strictly cooperate and obey all HQ orders all the time, this would be boring too.
  2. I meant when a vehicle actually appears on the field then your allowed to get them since I doubt every battle will have vehicles especially if its in an Urban environment and bolterséplasma guns should be fine for dealing with terminators

    I already explained that problem, 'when a vehicle actually appears on the field' you should be ready to greet it with several well aimed shots from lascannon or a missile launcher before it wipes out several dozens of regular marines with bolters unable to puch through the armour. Besides I don't like the idea of being forced to behave in a certain way and use only certain types of weapons in a given time (we will have class limitations and that's enough imo), if I want to use missile launcher to decimate grots or nurglings this is my business.

    Of course as Brent said these were just first tests and we must be aware of this. I hope the effective range of bolter will finally be further, I was thinking about 80\100 meters. Maybe this can be achieved through different upgrades like a longer barrel or a scope.

    Ok guys I got a short reply from the Lead Programmer Patrick Balthazar about headshots from bolter and other guns dmg:


    As for headshots we plan to have a high enough time-to-live so you will survive them, but there will be more damage when shot in the head. For other weapons than bolters I don't know the damage they will do, we don't have them in the game yet, so best to ask Michael Chan or Brent Ellison, our designer team about that!



    (I hope Patrick Blthazar won't mind my posting this conversation without getting his permission first. Well ,now I'll have to ask Michael Chan or Brent Ellison - but that will be after Christmas time, they must have a good rest :))

    I didn't specify I was talking about marines only (speaking to Patrick) so I guess this rule will apply to all races. (meaning: no insta death headshots for all)

    The problem with insta-kill headshot would be that players could just spray other players and, with a bit of luck, could land said insta-kill shot on them without aiming much or at all. I agree that headshots should do more damage than regular shots (with heads usually being harder to hit), but insta-kill would be overkill.
    And don't get me started on those bloody snipers.

    If there are instant deaths by a ranged weapon there better be instant deaths when I hit someone in the head with my chain axe and if I hit you with a Power Fist it should be Instant Death no matter where I hit you but that would be OP and so many peeps would cry and quit. So why should someone sitting half way across the map be able to instant kill if melee can't?

    Imo Instant Death at range is to much, this will promote a lot of camping, it should be 60%-75% damage to an equally geared/leveled player with a secondary effect like a dazed effect or some thing similar?
