Imperial Guard?

Discussion in 'Ask the Team' started by CptDred, Oct 18, 2013.

  1. If they are going to implement IG as F2P then you have to have Traitor Guard/Renegades for Chaos, who knows what for the Eldar because for them it doesn't really make sense to have a F2P class because they have so few unless you count a bone singer which would be almost worthless.

I really want to see Imperial Guard but it will be a long road to implementation.

Also @ Vox: How the hell is Titan Princeps even remotely Imperial Guard. That is from the Legio Titanicus of the Mechanicus which is a whole other faction.

Haha, yeah, after the update of the Imperial Guard (or the Astra Militaris now), Tempestus Scions would be a great choice for this race. Thre could be also abhumans, they would be interesting too!
  4. I play Guard as my main army on the table top, and i think each race should have its own f2p. For example Guard you could have conscript or pvt; Chaos renegade guard/cultist/renegade conscript; Eldar could have guardians; and marines could have scouts and Orks obviously have their nobz. But what i think might be necessary is that maybe a limit be put on the f2p for some races like e.g. for Ultramarines portion of the space marines only 100 limit for f2p scouts as that would represent the 10th company which is the scouts and to get into that while the 100 slots are full you would have to pay. :) And then as there are only 3 chapters in the game which use scouts as a troops not elite you could have 300? Because i am unaware of the Blood Angels and Dark Angels and how they use their scouts but the Space wolves only veterans can use them as it is seen as more of a challenge or something?
  5. the imperial guard could (should?) be implemented

but it has already bin descused and we arrived at a conclusion

    1. Orkz could lose some of their numerical advantage as some players would join the IG
    2. Orkz are undisciplined so F2P players that are most often casual or at least not hardcore gamers fit the plot as IG is based on discipline (core of the imperial guard tactics aint it?) so if a F2P player joins it, there is allot to bet that he wont follow orders correctly, ruining the imperial guard
    3. Guardsmen, as you said, are normal humans and ontop of that they only have their flashlight thus making them pretty weak against chaos marines, orks or Eldars so theere is only one way to balance the lot is to give each player a whole squad, and then again in balance needs the faction should be P2P
    4. In EC all factions fight each other so you wont be able to justify the IG attacking Space marines and if ou ally them they will be unbalanced and dont forget you cant put the IG as a F2P component of the space marines as a guardsman CANT become a space marine

In termes the only way to implement the IG would be to make them be sent by the inquisition (giving them the possibility to attack SM and giving them better equipement) and they should be P2P giving them by the same go a whole squad to give them a chance when a Chaos marine decides to charge them

  6. You are wrong in several regards about the Imperial Guard. It is true that the Imperial Guard runs mostly on discipline to keep units cohere and to accomplish goals but their are several cases in which Imperial Guard Regiments have freelancers within their ranks to wreck havoc amongst the enemy and also because commanding officers will not always be around.

Imperial Guardsmen do not use just the lasgun, it is a bit sad that most people just assume most Imperial Guardsmen only have their standard issue lasgun but depending on the regiment and the world you are on, there are several different weapons they might wield instead. Lasguns also come in several different varieties and settings with several being able to penetrate power armour on higher settings at the tradeoff of overheat issues and wide weapon spread.

If an Imperial Guard player were to go from F2P to P2P and stay within the Imperial Guard, they can become a more powerful standalone class such as a Stormtrooper, Commissar, or Inquisitor. Stormtroopers can go toe to toe with Astartes and possibly come out on top but only in ranged combat. Melee combat, only a select few within the Imperial Guard have such skills and are typically augmented heavily or using a relic weapon that "helps" the user in combat.

In terms of your post on Orks, they aren't undisciplined at all. They have order in disorder because they follow and respect strength. The person/creature wielding the most strength can wield the Ork hordes as they see fit so long as they prove they are the Alpha male. There are also several cases of Orks being intelligent enough to work alongside other factions with more or less great success and Orks have been known to outsmart Imperial Guard Regiments and Astartes Warbands from time to time.

One of the key points outlined in Eternal Crusade is that players who freelance often will be penalized in resources and experience because they will not recieve boosts from the faction they are aligned to. This narrows the cases of people who don't follow orders to barely any in the game because if you don't follow the chain of command, you won't have access to the best weaponry and wargear unless you farm like crazy and then have to re-earn them all over again because you won't have any help. Experience will be harder to earn because you are earning at the base rate without benefits. You will find engagements harder to beat because no one will support a dead weight player.

  7. yes you are right for allot of points

when I say IG relies on discipline, I think about guardsmen often advancing in rank, they follow orders without saying "NO", for orkz, they are undisciplined because they usually charge without really thinking

some Orkz are intelligent, I never said the opposite, and I never denied that some orkz works along side with other factions, but they ussually dont really think about guerrillla tactics as would catachan stormtroopers (correct me if I'm wrong) who would act as special forces

so yes IG does'nt only use the lasgun, but it is the standard weapon (yes some regiments have held pretty long against Orkz or chaos and even won, I think about the cadians who hold against chaos pretty often)

But you cant deny the fact that the most common gaurdsman is the regular conscript with his lasgun

and yes P2P players could have acces to stormtroopers, commissars and all the other classes that the IG has acces to

So with what you said and taking in count all those factors, Maybe IG would'nt be to difficult to implement

(thanks for reminding me all those points)

  8. Catachans don't have stormtroopers. They are one of a select few Imperial Guard Regiments in which they are comprised entirely of specialist light infantry or "scout infantry" and forego most other detachments in specialized training because they are already a catchall unit.

Orks have Kommandos which are in general high numbers which have been known to infiltrate Astartes installations, how they did this is unknown unless you account for lore and plot armour, and they have been known in several occasions to repeatedly maul Imperial Guard positions during night time raids, a time of engagement notoriously known for being a safe time against Orks due to the fact they are generally hesitant to be in dark places.

Imperial Guard forces often lose coherency in a firefight, it's only in the beginning and in the general overview is there any real order. Just like in any real life military force, there is a certain amount of leniency given to front line combat units in making their own assumptions to their orders and accomplishing them. Therefore you can argue that Imperial Guard units don't really need to be very disciplined to be effective as long as the end result is the same, total annihilation of the enemy. It just makes it harder if you try to be a lone gun as a Guard player.

Technically, everyone has Storm Troopers, as THE Storm Troopers are a standalone regiment sending out squads and companies to important warzones, attaching them to anyone who needs 'em.

Some worlds emulate the Storm Troopers by fielding Grenadiers as a permanent element in their regiments - such as the Cadian Kasrkin. Though even those would lack some of the special perks the Storm Troopers are afforded, such as having their own dedicated Valkyrie squadrons.

In GW's own books, only the Triplex-pattern lasgun has multiple charge settings, but this is contradicted by various licensed products that for some reason make it seem like a usual feature instead of an oddity. But even the bog-standard lasgun is capable of punching through power armour and dropping a Marine, it just does not have a huge chance to do so, and it generally takes more than one shot.

And I'm sorry, but the idea of thousands of "IG Inquisitors" just sounds ... wrong, and on two levels instead of just one. >_>
  10. OK, I let go, my poor knowledge of the imperial guard stops here, I will let you guys think about it because I cant think of anything else as I dont have sufficient knowledge on the subject

I'm more of a tyranid player on the tabletop game and otherwise I play space hulk so it's quite difficult for me to know as much as you guys about the imperial guard

(Coddy riggs, I knew I was going to say crap on the catachan units as I wasnt really sure what they were)

but anyway, as Lynata says, hundreds of inquisitors on the same planet at the same moment isnt really lore freindly as I recon, so it would be better to make inquisitors a special classe (a bit like the librarian will be for SM)
