A T-shirt is still better than being naked. In a typical shootout between Guardsmen and Boyz, the Guardsmen will land more hits and pass more armor saves (because Shootas are only AP6). This doesn't apply to Conscripts because conscripts can't hit the broad side of a barn, but then of course we're not going to be playing as Conscripts. And this is before considering what a Chimera will do to a Trukk (it doesn't go well for the Trukk).
The first time I saw a giant unit of ork lootas to open fire I was like "OMG they are going to kill all those poor guys!" ...then I saw how many hits they got.
First of all there's this: http://fc16.deviantart.com/fs12/i/2...rom_the_Inquisition_by_The_Imperial_Guard.jpg I think this illustrates the fact that standard IG can only take on individuals of the current factions en-masse. But specialist Regiments, especially those with armour components, will be able to. Personally I would choose from three options: To be a Scion (formerly Storm Troopers), which is easily equal to an Eldar Guardian. A Crew-member on an Leman Russ-type tank. A Gaunt's Ghost. For me its the stealth aspects combined with weapons like the LongLas.
I think a good way of making imperial gaurd more survivable is to make them use cover more effectively then other races.
You are either massively overestimating Guardians or massively underestimating Stormtroopers. Hot-shot lasguns are no joke. I don't really like the new design for their armor though, it feels too similar to a Space Marine scout. Which I guess technically it *is* the same type of armor, but I liked the older models better. They stayed closer to the Imperial Guard's overall look.
First of all, thank you OP for making a thread that's not just "when will we get IG?/how to implement." I saw the title, and assumed that's what it was until I opened it to find myself pleasantly surprised. In that spirit, I'm not going to get into an argument on the technical end of things that's already ongoing in several other threads and is sneaking its way in here. As for what I'd like to see and play? Vostroyan Firstborn, definitely! Krieg... yeah, they're pretty cool; I can get behind that. We can probably expect to see some Cadians, (when do we ever not see Cadians?) since they're basically the default depiction of the Guard, and that we're in Segmentum Obscurus relatively nearby to Cadia. So they have that going for them. Depending on where we fall on the timeline (pre-, during-, or post-Armageddon), it might be nice to see some Steel Legion. In all honesty, I'm not sure quite how different they are from the regiments from Krieg, so they might end up being either-0r. I'll have to compare/contrast them when the Lexicanum stops being uncooperative. Also, Elysian drop troops would be a nice touch as well, if the devs do end up deciding they want to implement aircraft. That's a discussion/debate for another thread, so let's not get into it here, but they'd be cool to see in-game. If I end up doing the Guard thing (I'll have to find an appropriate way to split my time between the Orks and the Guard), I'll probably end up doing a bit of everything: some footslogging, crewing a Leman Russ, a bit of Sentinel scouting, maybe. You know, the general IG fare. Tbh, I'm kind of skeptical that we'll see Earthshakers or any other (long range) artillery implemented in the game. Players tend to hate being attacked by things that are a really long distance away, which they can't see or effectively approach, so either the devs would end up facing a huge amount of griping about artillery OR they'd have to give artillery stupidly short ranges, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of long-range artillery. Maybe we'll see Medusas or some other kind of siege gun. I'm not sure if one of the devs addressed destructible sections of base walls to allow additional access points or if they players were calling for it, but if there's something like that then I'd imagine shorter-range siege vehicles would probably be something of a given. Sorry for getting off on a tangent there, but I'm going to leave it anyway. The long and the short of it is: I'm looking forward to the Guard and am genuinely curious on how it's going to be addressed. So here's hoping we'll get some neat Guard sub-factions, and they get the attention they deserve.
Actually I was making a reference to the basic stats of the individual and not the weapons as the Hotshot Las is far more powerful than the Shuriken Catapult. By the way has anyone thought of having Elysians?
Ah, I see. Yeah, all IG infantry basically have the same statline with some variation in WS/BS/LD due to their level of training. The vast majority of their variation is in equipment. Elysians would be a lot of fun, one of my favorite regiments. However, as they are focused on airborne mobile infantry they really wouldn't feel complete unless we also get Vendettas and Valkyries.
I would love to play as the IG seeing as they're my 2nd favorite faction. But I personally don't want Cadians or Cadian-clones that we see so much of in media. I wouldn't mind Krieg, Valhallans or Elysians. But I would really like if they would create they're own unique IG army. We have a million worlds, most of which have they're own IG regiments. Each with their own unique uniform, culture and tactics. But yet we seem to get the same regiments all the time in this gigantic, diverse galaxy. So I would love a new unique IG regiment who aren't Cadian-clones.
