Imperial Guard Faction?

I'm just saying that we're not going to ruin 30+ years of gaming tradition and relegate the Guard to permanent NPC status just because some Space Marine players cry "muh novels!".

40k is a game setting first and foremost. The Imperial Guard is a long-standing playable faction with a large and dedicated fanbase. We will not be sidelined no matter how large a K/D ratio some dude with a keyboard puts in the next novel.

Won't you? Too bad it's not up to you.
Anyway, even if IG ARE a faction, they're likely to be on the back burner, or as support for other Imperial forces.
Also, any IG classes will be Elite's like Commisar etc.
Your basic Guardsmen is essentially cannon fodder, and that doesn;t work well in a game.

It just so happens it's up to GW. Last time I checked IG is still in the tabletop and quite competitive as a standalone army, so it looks like GW still considers us a legitimate faction.

If Behavior really plans to "eventually add all factions" as they claim, then those plans must include the Imperial Guard. Furthermore, Steven Lumpkin has stated before that Behavior regards the Imperial Guard as a fully competitive, independent faction. This indicates that they will be implemented as such.

If we have to kick some Space Marines in the novels to do it, then so be it.

Indeed, but 10 Marines will still squash 10 Guardsmen any day of the week.
My point is having only a single Guardsmen won't work as a playable character, as they are stand-out the weakest model for model; army in the game.

The point is that you are not a marine, you don't have extra organs and hundreds of years of daily training, and you are gonna miss trying to hit a guard half of your size, making IG infantry a viable choice (although the IG strenght should be vehicles).

Technically that's not true either: Dark Eldar and Tyranids both have weaker models. Imperial Guard are roughly on par with Tau infantry-wise, it's just that unlike Tau a lot of their kit is optional and IG is a tiny bit better at melee.

Give the Guardsmen some of that optional kit, and you'll find they do pretty well.

You still won't be able to play Guard the same way you play Space Marines, but once you understand how they work then you'll understand their strength.
