Respawning is a thing, there will be plenty replacing of the fallen. And as has been discussed extensively, IG will easily be able to get away with squishy infantry as long as they are able to leverage mechanics that compensate (strong vehicles, Orders as buffs, high req income). Besides even if our lasguns are only supposed to tickle our enemies, a 150 round magazine is a whole lot of tickling.
I doubt the Guardsmen will be having a 150 round lasgun, especially since it's a thermal weapon, over heat is always a problem so I would expect the cooling mechanic to be in the lasguns build which is definitely a realistic bummer. One of the things Imperial Guard are known to do is simply to just keep throwing men at the enemy, armed or not, until the enemy runs out of ammunition. It worked for the Soviets in Stalingrad, it works for the most part in Warhammer 40k. The only thing that could make it worst is if those Guardsmen meatshields....I mean valiant soldiers of the Imperium discover religion outside of the Imperial Creed. With respawning, the devs still haven't answered what the penalties will necessarily be since they did list you would keep your items but whether or not their is a penalty to them upon death isn't clear. If there is no such penalty for Imperial Guard, as a motivator to play it as a weaker race infantry wise, all you have to do is just get all of your buddies to charge at once, respawn and charge again. After about the second or third wave, unless the enemy is getting resupplied which is highly unlikely, they will be running away because in a game, no one can out melee a hundred crazy Guardsmen high on Imperial Edicts and being chased by Commissars like me.
I think the IG should be a Faction way more Focused on vehicle warfare. And because its a Infantry Based MMO, it may take some time for them to show up. (Warp Storms are not so save for travel ) But for their infantry...maybe their squad size can be bigger than other factions? 20 instead of 10, the more Guardsmen are in a Squad the better they get ( Faster, better shooting...little more Health or some sort of dmg resistance), an in a quad could be a Kommissar, witch can have perks that supports them even more. A sargent can have the same role, but will be more focused on weapons. But these things work only in the squad. Not like the Waaaagh of the Orks, witch will be to all. IG should get normal Points, but their equipment should be cheaper, and the respawn rate shorter.
This is a falsehood that lasts to this day thanks to horribly inaccurate movies and Axis propaganda that has echoed to this day, sorry to be a stick in the mud but historical inaccuracies like this are an insult to the people who fought and died against the Axis war machine.
It is not a falsehood. I own several books regarding the Soviet war machine and the battle of Stalingrad is one of three major battles in which the Soviets literally resorted to the tactic of just sending wave after wave of conscripts in the hopes of stalling the German advance. The book Why the Allies Won by R. J. Overy which is one of the most accurate WWII collections covering the entire war-front has over 400 Russian documents and military doctrines regarding the Stalingrad offensive in which they quote the Russian High Command into their exact decisions which was "do not surrender a single inch to the fascists. Drive them back no matter the cost. You will hold your ground until the last drop of blood, the last bullet and you will force them back at every opportunity." I didn't make that post due to movies, I made it because historical documents themselves prove it.
Yes, I don't doubt this, but the whole notion of sending unarmed soldiers is just garbage, such an occurrence only took place in very early stages of the Axis assault.
oh? i recall them sending soldiers without guns with soldiers with guns--they formed a pair, and when one died, the other was to pick up said gun and keep fighting.
