IG Would be fun, but again, they are at the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to the other factions, plus how would that work when technically you already have an Imperial side (the space marines). It is the problem that they just don't fit. What could be good is if you have missions where you play through as someonelike a guard Sargent with a squad of semi intelligent NPC 'pets' that run through a separate story line (like a dungeon quest in WOW). They wouldn't end up in PVP, (unless you have guard, corrupt guard etc), but a player could use them. Inquisitors are another problem, although, as above, having them in separate instances would solve this problem.
But are we forgetting warhammer 40k dark millennium where the imperial guard and tech priests fought next to astartes (well I might add ) and that seem to work so why not now what's so different?
If ever Imperial guard be factions in Eternal Crusade I hope that one of Regiments would be Armageddon Steel Legion or Death Korps of Krieg or both but it is tricky to put Imperial Guard in Eternal Crusade we already have Space Marines like Imperial force guards could be sub-faction but then you would have to add sub-factions for Orks, Chaos Space Marines and Eldar plus Imperial Guards strength in numbers one Imperial Guard is not so strong in single combat with Ork or Chaos Space Marine. And to fight against the space marines are stupid and would not make sense although the developer said they eventually want to add all factions
Thats the main problem of EC and will stay it in the Future if the Tac-marine gets portrayed as the Puny Regular. Not really, PDF is at the Bottom. Guardsmen, Orc-Boyz and Eldar Guardians are quite even in my opion. All with their own strengths and weaknesses. Not their only Strength. That a Guardsmen can't do shit is a Myth of Vanilla WH40k were 10 Orkboyz can Conquer an entire Planet and the Spess Mahreens slaugther whole Whaaghs by themselfes. The "Flashlight" is capable of Melting Rocks, Shoot through most of natural Cover and even kill a Space Marine by (extreme) lucky shot. The most common Flak Vest seems to be more protective than stuff we have today. But more importantly. Armor on Regulars are not there to protect against aimed Shots, more against stuff like splitters, falling Rubble and so on. In most instances only 2-25 Regiments fight on a Planet with or without local PDF against in most times superior numbers of Tyranid oder Orcs without beeing doomed. Those common believed 10 million battles are Stuff of Crusades which get Remembered for Centuries.
they should just merge them with the Space Marines and call it the Imperium of Man with some balancing tweaks here and there. but really that's just my opinion, I don't see IG fighting Space Marines all that soon.
That would even be the best. I think the lorebreak of giving Guardsmen/Cultists the Possibility of becoming an Marine is far better than making Marines of Both sides Common Soldiers and Excluding weaker Factions.
I think IG are really weak compared to the infantry of all the other races. I don't know how they'd balance it.
Hell no. Just make Guardsman and the Space Marines one combined faction, Don't restrict Marines to be only available on a timer though, let Marine fans play as Marines without limit (except terminators and such) and let Guard fans play the Imperial Guard. Sure, you might get a lot of people playing Marines if the IG don't have a lot going for them on a per-man basis but that's the risk you run when adding the IG into an mmotps where all the other factions are far more resistant to gunfire and deal far more damage, Balance this by giving Imperial Guard new mechanics, Commissars to buff damage or morale or whatever, Artillery, Vehicles. etc.
I can hear the rage coming. Personally I just think the squad based mechanic is best. Just have it so if the leader dies you become a grunt untill they're all dead.
