  1. Me and valrak go WAY back, he will never ban me
  2. Valrak Valrak Arch Cardinal Superior

Actual you can mention the Iron, the lore has changed now :p
  3. If by that you mean that Ward's final heresy addition to the IF propaganda codex was to refer to the Cage as something along the lines of a "crucible where two legions could have died", remember that both legions have different views of what happened. ;)

Of course, I can't entirely criticise the recent "let's make everyone win in their own stories" angle from GW, as the Black Legion codex essentially says Chaos is winning the Long War and most Black Crusades were entirely successful in achieving their aims. I eagerly await the Imperial players saying "Dammit, we were wrong all along!"

Actually, the biggest annoyance I have with the recent round of airbrushing is that many of the legions found and defined themselves through failure more than success. The Black Legion is probably the most striking example, but the Imperial Fists nearly wrecking themselves in the Iron Cage as Dorn transitioned from his madness back to sanity before dividing and rising as some of the most influential chapters in the new Codex-compliant world was actually a great story. It explained the reason behind why Dorn introduced the doctrine of purging of failure through pain, and why the arrogance which plagued him in the pre-heresy era was gone after the pyrrhic victory at Terra and Perturabo forcing a defeat or second pyrrhic stalemate (pick your preferred codex) in the Iron Cage.

The Dark Angels wouldn't be who they are without the consequences of the Lion being unable to trust anyone, and being pretty untrustworthy himself. The Soul Drinkers were interesting because their story was one of tragedy and self-destruction, albeit with a remaining sliver of some form of redemption. I could go on, but I think you get my point.

My enduring gripe with the likes of the Ultramarines is that the lore appears to be incapable of letting them fail. It would be a horrific shame if GW saw to it that the Fists ended up following them and becoming yellow smurfs. :(
    Galen and SonOfDorn216 like this.
  4. Before you make claims like this, i would ask that you please read the HH
  5. *sighs*

You assume that I haven't? I wasn't implying that nothing ever goes wrong (particularly not on a temporary basis during a written story), but on a scale where the majority of major lore events and conflicts have gone successfully or terribly, on one end of the scale you have the Lamenters and near the other extreme you have the Ultramarines.

I don't have any particular gripe with the Ultramarines, I just find chapters that wallow in success and glory and are referred to as having virtually achieved perfection (rather than struggling to attain it) less interesting than those who have gone through more soul-searching events in their past that have made them stop, re-evaluate and either reaffirm or change their beliefs, and which subsequently went on to define who they really are.

Naturally, YMMV. Either way, we're veering off-topic - in the interests of keeping Valrak's blood pressure down, I'd be happy to pick this up in a PM if you want to discuss further.
  6. Valrak Valrak Arch Cardinal Superior

Yes, take it too PM :p
  7. We did.

Your dictatorship is ever growing...I shall keep an eye on you.

I'm not too concerned by who gets to be the fifth subfaction, but I'd like to know why Imperial Fists is your choice. I still haven't decided who to vote for, so a well-thought-out explanation might sway my decision.
  9. In brief, it's a combination of their eye-popping (in)famous colour scheme, gritty/stubborn siege warfare theme, Founders of the Black Templars and hateful rivalry with the Iron Warriors - who are already in game - which makes the IF the frontrunners imo. Seriously, the only Astartes rivalry more bitter and hateful is Dark Angels vs Dark Angels. The IF/IW rivalry/gameplay potential in a PvP game cannot be matched with any of the other FF chapters vs Chaos Legons/Warbands. The IF and IW hatred is famous. There would be no fiercer battles.
    Hell_Grunt and Crioxus like this.

    As for me, for short.
I chose the Imperial Fists, not for their yellow color. Because my favorite color is red. I chose the Imperial Fists for what they are, for their background.
