Indeed. The new lore seems to have focused on airbrushing out Imperial mistakes and failures, and rewriting Chaos successes into stalemates and failures. The Imperium was given brand new demigods like Kaldor Draigo, and the Ultramarines given even more airtime (why, for the love of Tzeentch? They don't fecking well need it) Then, bizarrely, to ensure the continued decline in popularity of the Blood Angels, they were given the Necron bromance as a consolation prize. Meanwhile, the Black Legion supplement strongly suggests that Abaddon is undoubtedly winning the Long War, even as all evidence of this is deleted and rewritten. Ward has a metric ton of s*** to answer for... GW appear to see marketing potential down the "all things to all men" route, and embrace the idea that all stories are propaganda. Which basically means there is no canon lore. Taking it to its illogical conclusion, in the Imperial Fist accounts, the Iron Cage was an easy victory that the Ultramarines arrived too late to join. The Ultramarines codex will say that they defeated the Iron Wariors and rescued the Imperial Fists, who were so grateful they adopted the codex astartes on the spot. And the Iron Warriors codex will say that both the Fists and Smurfs got their asses handed to them, and they only withdrew because Perturabo had made his point and got bored... So we may have to agree that the Iron Cage was and wasn't a trap, where the Fists were victorious, stalemated and roundly defeated, and that these days Rogal Dorn is alive and missing a hand, dead and missing with only one hand recovered, and on display in a reliquary coffin with both hands missing. Jeez, can we go back to the old lore already? My head hurts....
