Seems too rapid-firing. I felt DoW2 had the best bolters. They fired at a reasonable rate and left nice smoke trails. Bolters shouldn't feel like machine guns, is the thing.
Two things this abysmal film got right. The bolt weapons and the power armour. The bolters sound amazing and look amazing, they tear through the enemy quickly and fire at a slow-ish rate of fire. Exactly as I'd want it, slow firing ( 200 - 250RPM ) and high damage (50+ per body shot, more on HS). Plus the power armour was nice in the film, looked like actual combat armour rather than a glorified sumo-suit.
The OP has an example I completely disagree with. The shots sounds clanky and mechanical but theres little to no bark to the shots. Bolter rounds are supposed to have a really deep boom to them, as outlined in most novels. The fire rate on that rifle is more like an SMG with the lack of recoil.
The real problem here is that ranged combat needs to be fixed. The bolter itself "feels" great, but no one gets any kills with it because ranged combat is borked. Gotta fix the disease, not cure the symptom
That sounds... less loud and less hardcore than the Bolter does now... Honestly it would be a downgrade, I think the current one sounds just right, could need some adjustments but still... A bolter is practically a missile launcher, it never was and never will be an assault rifle of any kind, so it needs to have a bigger impact to it with the sound, more of a "BAAM" sound similar to which we got now, instead of a "PEW PEW" as shown in the video... So no!
Yeah, not a huge fan of the Doom effects for bolter sounds. It's to much of a cling sound, while I feel like bolters need sort of a click-boom to each shot. If that onomatopoeia makes since. I think the Space Marine game did a good job with bolters in general, and should be used as the standard by which others are measured.
