I also love Tau :3 mostly because Tau and Eldar warfare is quite similar ^^ Though Tau are totally fave, because of the stealth suit and fire warriors :3 Fell in love with the faction in DoW1 ^^
The Eldar lore (history/myths make me sad) and technology is interesting. Also, someone needs to become an Eldar to help them survive!
It's hard to see more example of diversion than Tau and Eldar. Tau doctrine is overwhelming firepower. Or it's been implemented in the tabletop since their introduction. Eldar doctrine is creating local superiority via mobility. They don't have static defences or fortresses.
Oh my bad , May the blessings of Asuryan protect the children of Asuryan from abomination, its from Shadow Point novel
Tau also dont use any fortress or static defence at all x) They dont solve everything with brute firepower. Their hit-and-run tactics are quite annoying and feared. A set of stealth suits, pathfinders and some kroot auxiliary hunter cadre can make one's life hell, especially in a forest/jungle environment. Or add sniper drones and you have a hell of a day x) True, Tau can field some crazy firepower with their battlesuits, more then the Eldar, but they are quite similar (not identical tho ) Eldar have specialised aspects, like the Tau have their similarly strict unit order. Their fighting phylosophy is similar also (hit hard and get the hell out, sneaky like ^^). Since either one cant really deal with front-line combat.
Well Eldar won't be my main but I hope to embrace Eldar with my 2nd character in the form of either a Warp Spider or Ranger. What it did for me is the behavior of the Eldar, they are smart and do not really care about the moment, they rather care about long-term. Also they do not really care or worry about allying with an enemy faction if it helps the galaxy to survive longer. Mostly getting rid of raising Necrons which otherwise would lay the Imperium, Tau, etc. into wastes. The Eldar are the unsung heroes of the Galaxy!
Tau don't have the Eldar level of tech. They're good at shooting slugs... but they have traditional bases and traditional logistics, while Eldar can literally strike out of nowhere and return to said nowhere. Most of battle with the Eldar aren't battles, they're manslaghters. Look at FFG stuff, Black Crusade (game for playing disciples of Chaos) shows how Eldar deal with those who pose danger to them. Life of some wicked warlord ended on Harlequin's kiss a split second before he could realize that his warband assaulted by Eldar force. Some big pirate hub attracted the attention of Eldar fleet. Again, no fight - simple and planned devastation of pitiful Chaos forces and their planet. But, of course, we have to play on tactical level here and on tabletop. And on tactical level some similarities start to appear indeed.
