YO DAWG, I HEARD YOU LIKE WOLFS, SO I PUT A WOLF ON YOUR WOLF SO YOU CAN WOLF WHILE YOU WOLF. ALSO, WOLVES.
First got interested in 4ok about nine years ago. Tyranids were always my favorite but over time I also started SM and then Space wolves. I'll admit that I still don't know much about the Eldar and hardly played them in the Dow franchise but I gotta say, always thought they were pretty cool. Lately though I've been developing a stronger interest in them and I've decided to play Elar in EC over SM, which was my first choice because it looks like SM is going to saturated to the point of overpopulation. I think Eldar will have the players who are generally more skilled than say SM, which is where most of the f2ps who upgrade to premium are gunna go to. That said, I might have two characters.
I am not 100% sure, but there is a possibility that you don't just buy the account and then create whatever characters you like, but probably you buy, say, Space Marine account, or Eldar Account... And if you want to have characters of 2 races, you'd have to buy 2 accounts. That's how I got what the Devs were saying, I may be mistaken.
I kinda hope its not that, feels very restrictive, perhaps something like Planet Side 2 where you have a certain amount of character slots that can be any faction.
They were quite clear that it's the Guild Wars model. Buy the full game, that's the only real option, and you get all the races and all the major content. No "Eldar faction" pack or anything...although they may do that for the aesthetic microtransactions.
But with faction-restricted accounts you wouldn't have that much of an issue with faction espionage. It is still possible, but much more trouble, +money. And the main factor is that in your faction the players are either dedicated, or wealthy, and both is good for EC Much less dead weigh, easier to control population. Nice to have a firm answer. However they decide, hope they know what they are doing.
The early Reddit AMA and some news articles with Miguel Caron made it fairly clear. Also I think the Orky newsletter mentioned it to some degree.
I don't believe that this is entirely correct. They have definitely stated that you can buy bits and pieces of gameplay affecting stuff via microtransactions. eg: a Free-to-play player can purchase, for a small sum, full access to a single class, or at least something like that. This is from the reddit AMA. It's the GW2 model but with more flexiblility; you can buy bits and pieces if you'd like rather than pay 60 dollars to unlock "everything". At least, that's the way I interpreted it. I can't find the exact comment in the AMA at the moment.
As much of a fan as I am with Race Packs or having to buy the game for each specific race. I don't think it is going to happen. I would love to see it as it would be a good money maker for the Dev Company which in turns gives the players a greater chance of seeing some of the other races later on. But, Here's the quote that makes me say that one game = all races.
