Personally, I'm not too worried about population. I mean, 2 years before release and the forum has nearly 5000 registered members, and not everyone who currently knows about and wants to play a game would have a forum account. With 5000 people at least, since it's single server, there would be 1250 people per faction, assuming a fairly even split, at launch. Even after adding more factions, it's still, at the very least, hundreds of players per faction, in one server, fighting a giant never ending battle. And it's more likely to be thousands per faction, really.
That is a terrible argument. Surely you can see that there is a massive logical flaw running right through the center of it? 1. Armies don't need to have troopers with personality in order for that army to have character, just look at the Tyrannids for an example of how this can be achieved! 2. If something lacks substance it is not necessary to throw it out and start over if it can be built upon. 3. Funny personality ticks do not equate to 'character', they are just a cheap and shoddy excuse for one, just look at any good actor. Frankly there are several possibilities for better backgrounds for the Necrons that remain consistent with the Lovecraftian menace of the oldCrons, while still giving character to their armies, if not to their troopers. and all while solving the problem that came with having the C'Tan as 'gods' that could still be played on the battlefield. The fact that MW took the easy route and retCronned them into a childrens's cartoon version of Tomblords in spaaaace, while throwing away all their menace and horror, is a testament to his lack of creativity, a complete failure to understand the psychology of fear, a lack of imagination and above all a lack of respect for prior 40k lore! The fact that some people prefer them as they are now I consider a testament to the fact that people can like almost any old crap and don't mind it when an amateurish writer decides to rip up established lore in order to 'make it better' - hey go figure some people prefer the Phantom Menace to Empire Strikes Back lol.
There was no menace or horror to the army. It was just an army of robots under the control of the C'tan. There were some very cool things about the old codex, but most of it was fairly flat, especially rule-wise. And really, only 4 things were really changed: low level Necrons have slightly more sentience, high level Necrons have almost fully functional minds, they rebelled against the C'tan, and they no longer want to murder the universe. And some of them still want to murder the universe. As for retconning, I dont think that was the first major retcon in GW history (squats), nor will it be the last. It was decided that Necrons were to be taken in a different direction, and it worked. Oh, and just because you don't like something doesn't make it garbage, and it doesn't mean people who like it have bad taste. So stop acting like your opinion is more important or correct than anyone else's.
From the perspective of Imperium of Man, of course. At least that was the entourage of the last old codex. Last implementation simply miserable, compared to what we could have imagined before. All ''Soul" lost.
I just hate the new Tomb Kings in Space art-direction and influence on their vehicles. Now it's Terminators clad in gold or blue themed egyptian ornaments and overly simplistic, tiny and flat hats. Riding or sitting on CHARIOTS. Also, the possible loss of the Pariahs. ( Basically the theme of converting others into a new form of Necrons. )
How about a PHARAON from his own funfiction? And much more. For example empire of crazy Flayed Ones. Le fu~
So, I understand that some people don't like it. I understand why. But just because you don't like the official lore does not mean it should be changed for the game. The new codex is canon, that is how Necrons are now, and you need to accept that, and accept that some people like the new codex. (although I will admit new flayed ones are awful)
I think this thread should talk more about HOW they can be implemented, as in gameplay. Not really why they should be added because lore this and lore that. Because, the gameplay and how "fun" it would be to play as them, matters more to an army being added than people who disagree with the lore. (i still think lore is important, just that it shouldn't be the main concern for a video game, gameplay should come first, with respect to lore) ....at least, thats' my opinion
