If Major Flyers Are Out Of The Question (as Of Yet), What About Smaller Flyers?

  1. I just want the basics, I dont know the names, but the ones from dowsoulstorm. Doesnt unbalance the game, but isnt useless.

  2. since the map will be 8x8 somthing flyers would be hard to implement, still im hoping for skimmer like land speeder at launch. Flyers like Stromraven and thunderhawks could be implemented as a NPC transport. when your squad board you tell it to drop you off at close to some capture point that you want to attack. the flyer would then fly there. provide a short suppression of enemy units with its weapons and then leave for home again.

The map is 8x8, but so are all the maps on planetside and they've intergrated air units fairly well.

I just really don't want to see what I see in planetside, where you get one air unit that is ridiculously overpowered and almost impossible to kill from the ground.

In fact if they offered some sort of short range artillery I think you could totally get rid of the need for air units. And provided some way to deepstrike.
  4. you mean like the quad gun?

I was thinking something along the lines of a big cannon strapped to a tank. Something with an arc rather than direct fire.

When it comes to gameplay I have to think "Is this fun to play? Is this fun to play AGAINST?" The liberator fails in the second category because it is absolutely unfun to play against the liberator in any situation where you're on the ground. I miss the Planetside 1 liberator, which was actually fun to play against.

Keep in mind I didn't say 'win against'. Fun =/= winning.

  6. guns on bases should also be an anti air option.
and a skilled lascannon user should be able to take down an aircraft with 1 hit, 2-4 if its sized thunderhawk

    hmmm,
thunderhawk has a top speed of about 2000 km/hr,
which works out to 33.3km/min or 0.5km/sec,
which means it takes about 16 secs to cross an EC map from end to end

Aircraft. I think there's two sides of it. Either there implemented or else a small amount will. In my opinion, having bombers and attack aircraft would not make the game fun. I heard some talk about Planetside and there, I've only experianced Dominion (The Red) Fighter jets, taking out bases alone and everyone in it. (When I say that, I mean a base where the attack isen't focused. A base without fighting going on)

I do think Aircraft should be implemented, but only with two types of aircraft. Transport and Small 1-man aircraft. An example could be the Ork Koptas or a Land Speeder. A small aircraft that 1 man can pilot and can also fire in the battlefield, without having a goddamn bomber bomb the whole battlefield, which would do nothing good, but killing the enemy!.. And all of your allies.

Man, this is a really good idea with the Anti-Air base defences. Still don't think that would make up for Fighters and Bombers.

Also think this idea is so good. NPC Thunderhawks. Also as said above, it would take about 16 seconds to fly from one end to another, but if the pilot didn't have any reason to do that (Which a NPC obviously wouldn't) then it could be good. How this NPC transport would be managed as in resources is another story.

I do think Drop Pods will be implemented. They could even do as in Section 8 where you choose where you wanna spawn and then you drop in with a Drop Pod. Only way this couldn't work is Drop Pods landing on eachother (Could do something like when you try to Drop a specific place where someone is dropping, it disallows it) and it could flood the system and wouldn't make sence for everyone to drop in a pod alone. Perhaps only Drop Pods when you're in a squad? Even though...
Dreaming that I'm ramming down towards the battlefield in a Ork Rok!

  9. Most small aircraft in 40K are either Skimmers, or can act as skimmers.

The Stormtalon is a good example of an aircraft/skimmer combo, with two weapon systems.
But the main SM Skimmer is the Land Speeder.

The Tempest is a Land Speeder adapted to be a flyer, but only seems to have one weapon system.

The only small Ork aircraft or Skimmer is the Deffkopta.

But Eldar have a couple of options, from the Vyper Jetbike to FW's Hornet.

The smallest Chaos flyer I know of is the Hellblade.

Most of these small Skimmer/aircraft have one pilot with two weapon systems.

If you're looking for a small SM transport what about the Caestus Assault Ram?

  10. no. you can most certainly make counters for bombers and whatnot, and if it works it will DEFINITELY make the game twice as fun. base defenses will probably be the same as what you see in the imperial fortifications--four barrels thingy. also, heavy bolters WILL be able to harm fighters, and will probably be quite a danger for light, single man fighters.
