it's the same proposal that pop up with imperial guard.

and the answer is the same: game don't work like that: developers cannot add an indefinite number of NPC and AI, because the server and the client have limited resource. for put in a game 100 npc you must remove 100 players.

it a map allow 400 vs 400 you can have 800 player or 100 players and 700 npc.

this is the simple and not accurate explanation but the result is that.

this is false: because many developers explained us that the load is the same in the end.
is the reason why is hard to have tyranids in the same map with the players, for example an AI that try to consider all the position of players in the battlefield for attack them, or a player with 4 pet that must be loaded by the client because is spawned behid a wall.

  2. Simply false. APB:R has approx. 1000 NPC civilians in a district and 100 players. Taking out those 1000 civilians does not mean the district could then support 1,100 players. It wouldn't even mean it could support 500 players. AI masses do not take up as much server resources as a player because many of their parameters are shared, and they can be removed and re-added as the server needs be. That game, by the way, is still running on Unreal Engine 3.

    do those 1000 npc's engage in battle's?

now I dont know of any game that has both large numbers of actual players and large numbers of NPC's all engaged in battle within a single instance

non-combat NPC's like civilians/quest givers wandering a social hub is a very different matter to having all those NPC's and players fighting together in a single battle

    EDIT

but hey if you seriously think you know how EC's being put together and its capabilities better then the devs that are actually doing it ..... then please feel free to post your suggestion in a twitch question thread or in DJ's Q&A thread .... perhaps youll get a different answer then we did the last few times this concept was raised with them
  4. They have health, varied appearances, they walk about, interact with scenery, and drive vehicles. The last of which is more taxing due to the needed physics calculations than simplistic "move and shoot on sight" AI. Compare that to a grunt that spawns in, has a life expectancy of maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute, and is despawned on death.

so you say that developers are liar and don't know their work?

  6. If they don't want to feature creep to include AI in PvP, that's their prerogative. But if they say "We can't do it because every NPC is one less player in the instance." then, yes, that's disingenuous.

    4. Will battles (or some of them) include AI fighting alongside players ? Something like imperial guards helping space marines, guardians helping eldars, renegades helping chaos, boys helping orks.

BRENT ELLISON: We’ve talked about this in the past, and if we do so it’d be to fill in spots for missing players. Since adding NPCs to a battle reduces the number of players that the server can handle, we want to avoid that whenever possible. We won’t be making new factions (such as imperial guards) just for this though.

    2. Territories are confirmed to be instanced, does that open the possibility to see tyranids on the surface of the planet instead of underground dungeons?

BRENT ELLISON: It’s certainly easier under that system, but for gameplay purposes we are still currently trying to give Tyranids “their own space” rather than re-using them in PvP areas. AI, especially horde-based melee ones, have very different requirements in terms of geometry and we really want to give them the space they need to shine.

In truth with the way the game is being built ATM this is a problem that will take care of itself.

Since it's using a "Heroes and Generals" model style of match making, it works out like this:

If you have 1000 spaec marine players looking for a match, they'll be stuck in longer matchmaking times

All the other races will have much much shorter times to get into matches, probably instantaneously.

Eventually space marine players will drift all over the place to their "Second pick".
  10. Wasn't this thread spammed in the SM then shot down in the air like a git tryin to fly an ork fighta bomber?
    K well...
when you show your degree in Computer Science, Your degree in Information Technology, and show us your your unlimited knowledge of server technology and how you can go around this problem without any effort, try to talk. Also don't forget the gaming desgin degree and coding certificates as well in order to show us your make gud code long time.

I mean apparently by the way your make it sound you have this technology long time in your basement and you run it for giggles every day cause "hey fuck it im better then people who job this is "
