The polls are actually really close. AFAIK there hasn't been an pure Tau vs Necron poll. The latest poll had Tau, Necron and Dark Eldar and Tau only had a very small lead. And let's be honest if it comes down to Tau vs Necrons, who in their right mind would pick those Goody-Two-Hooves over the Robot Overlord Killing Machines?
@cronty, agreed Cons over Tau. necrons would fall more in line with the rest of the armies without being so similar or extreme to one form of combat. plus necrons are mid ranged gunners and CC monsters. anyone think lychguard would have a stand and wait ability, extra damage if you wait a certain time before striking. there would be issues though with canoptek scarabs and spiders.... how would a player play them. maybe more of an ability or vehicle (scarab and spider respectively)?
I liked the oldcrons a lot better than the new version, but I'm also a 'Nid fan, so I find the faceless, unknown horror thing to be a plus. The nice thing about the old version was that no one flat out told you exactly why they do what they do, so there was plenty of room for each person to fill in the blanks to their liking. Now they're just a fallen race who got tricked into being a slave army... meh.
In a different thread I made a list of what I would consider the Necron equivalents to the Space Marine units. http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/thr...r-5th-founders-or-no.20904/page-7#post-408122 The thing is, with the new codex there is actually MORE room for creating your own army, because there is a framework which we can use as guidance. I had endless fun creating my own dynasty for our club's campaign. The old lore had no such thing. You only knew your army was a mindless slave army to a C'tan. The rest was just random guess work
well the simplest way to handle the reanimation protocol is actually the respawning mechanic thats already in the game that all factions will be using isnt it?
Ok, let me put this in pictures: You really want this? Nah... I know you want this: Easy choice, right? (Pro tip: right click and select "View Image" for full resolution.)
since almost all the battlesuits from Tau would end up being elites with high RP and CD times...dreaming of running about in "gundam" is possibly about as realistic as hoping to run around wearing TDA all the time or being a dreadnought, Necrons can far more easily have their weapons balanced and present playable classes that are very unique, not just more dudes in power armor, they are the armour Tau would mostly just be smaller dudes in power armour another thing to consider is the very high probabilty that the range of most rifle type weapons will be around 100m or less, so being the classic Tau "shoot them from extreme range" isnt going to happen
