that post made me laugh... egyptian space robot zombies are original ? theyre not more original than pointy eared humans or the imperial guard... tau or sister of battle see seem more original to me.
while i would love necrons to be in the game, played them when their 5th edition came out, i would rather have Imperial Guard.........i know AM but i like the old name lol. ok, i can't write too much or i start to ramble out side of the OP. on the subject of necrons in the game, i say yes but later than release, much later. i see issues with how the devs have stated the style of the game vs necron fluffy tactics. i think it would derail the current development and direction this early. wait a bit tell the game has been out and people have found their niche then try and add them in. i will say that when necrons get added i will love trying to kill them.....over and over and over and over.....
I originally thought I would like to see Necron as a PvE faction. After reading a number of Cronty posts I am more and more convinced that they should be playable, not a launch but definitely later on. I am TT Necron player and I think it was Cronty that said before, as a player with the destroy all life lore with no real inspiring HQ characters it is boring. But as an enemy of the Necrons that adds mystery to them. Playing Newcrons I think is much better for the person that controls them as it has better inspiring HQ characters and gives more motivation and direction to the army. for this reason I don't see why Necrons could not be a playable race as the old lore does not apply anymore really.
@ted, agreed on the HQ subject. been thinking though how would nercons be not OP with the resurrection protocol? was thinking it would be fun to keep killing someone tell they res'd somewhere else but now i don't see it working as a mechanic that's not broken. the nids for instance have this in sheer numbers and so do orks i guess, though nids can re-pop instantly from any biomass, and take on traits of the DNA they use. orks on the other hand have to grow so its very slow. necrons would be instant reconstruction.... too fast. could do a spend points thing and it increases but then just get more points.....don't know think where im going with this is for another thread.
Doing my best! I obviously REALLY hope they will make it as the 5th faction at launch. Ooooh the sheer possibilities I can think of for resurrection mechanics and Necrons! In any case it wouldn't work all the time, same as Reanimation Protocols in TT. The most straightforward thing would be to give the Necron player a limited amount of self-resurrections. If that is too unbalancing, we can also always make friendly resurrection look like self-reanimation, with the friend just standing nearby and lending "network support". Which actually is conform with TT rules, since if a Necron unit was wiped or fled (ie there are no nearby friends) there are no reanimation protocol rolls. And true self-resurrection could be reserved for hero units. Just like in the TT rules HQ get the Ever-Living rule.
@cronty, i like the idea of it being team member resing the player, makes sense and is as you say not breaking fluff. having a number of re-spawns on grunts would be a no no, HQ/heroes yes that makes sense. give them 2 or 3 lives depending on status, i like it lol.
From what I can tell Tau are a lot more popular race than Necrons, I forsee them being the 5th fraction and if it turns to a vote I'd much prefer them.
@tony, i disagree. with the focus on CC that the devs are going with Tau will be hard to balance. whos going to play a race that can kill stuff thats not rushing at it. the reverse, whos going to play orks when you can never get into CC against Tau. plus if Tau are OP in guns so they survive, what will be the point of the eldar or SMs?
