atheism ˈeɪθɪɪz(ə)m noun noun: atheism disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods. Thus it is entirely possible for a chaos marine to view the chaos gods as gods ergo he becomes an atheist.
Physical power and divine power are not the same. Even if a yokel thinks an Astartes is divine that doesnt make it so, but the Dark Gods are beyond our realm and can do impossible things and give power to mortals. That classifies enough as divine power, therefore even a Night Lord may not worship the Dark Gods but they cannot choose to be ignorant of their existence (unless they got amnesia or something)
Disbelief...they know they exist therefore cannot be Atheists...how is this hard to understand? Seriously the evidence is right there and yet you still argue. I guess if i claim to not believe in a couch that means i really dont believe it exists right? No because i know that couch exists, i have seen it, even sat on it
If they don't accept they are GODS and just powerful entities then they are atheists it's like saying Jesus was a powerful and influential political figure not the son of god
I recall a whole "secret" organization in the WB stopping such things...Brotherhood is called i think. So the WB are not the best example. And i disagree these are exceptions to the "rule" !The rule as you pointed out is the GS but like every other rule it can have exceptions! Now in the game i think it would be better to portray the legions according to the "rule" (NL not being great belivers in the pantheon,WB being the zealous fanatics we all love etc etc) instead on the exceptions (NL deamon princes and suicidal WBs). They know of the gods existance so even by this definition there can be no CSM atheists!
Sigh...i can claim i believe this computer is made of cotton candy, that doesnt change it. The Chaos Gods befit the definition of god or god-like entity well enough to be considered gods in 40k. They are beyond the mortal realm and possess power beyond any mortal, they can change reality and give power to mortals. They can create from nothing. So once again: Chaos Marines are aware of the Chaos Gods, therefore they cannot be Atheists, regardless of how they feel about them as they still befit the definition of a god
So can many of the daemons but we don't call them gods so whats stopping a chaos marine saying they are not gods just extremely powerful daemons.
Daemons are extensions of the Chaos Gods' powers, therefore they are not gods. Are you really this oblivious to logic? The Dark Gods are beyond any Daemon in power, to such a degree that divinity is not questioned...this is so simple, i cant believe i have to attempt to "convince" anyone of it
I'm not oblivious to logic mate you are just being quite closed minded. Look at it this way I do not view the chaos gods as gods just very powerful daemons so why would it be so difficult for a space marine. (I'm also laughing that we are arguing about space marine athiests )
And how would this brotherhood even find these people? or even know they exist? Not everyone reports to the Dark Apostles you know, and traveling from one planet to the next in the warp could take five minutes, or five thousand years, even if they are so close you can almost see them from the planets surface.
