I Really Hope They Learn From The Mistakes Of Warhammer Online

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Vorrax, Nov 19, 2013.

  1. You don't understand me I think.

I don't consider that griefing, I think it's a good thing and it should be standard. I don't see the point in forcing myself to do that while other players get it much easier than I do. Safe PvE should be subcontent to what you can achieve through risk related PvE because it's just not as difficult.

    Ok...

So I have played WAR from release so wanted to wade in and give some views.

WAR failed in many ways such as :

Bad played base communication from devs.
Lack of focus in PvP - (Original City fights were PvE led) (lotd was not really needed) (Skaven release...)

Poor direction in terms of a plan for the game and were they would like it to go.

To many servers at release, spread the player base thin and resulted in dropped subs as people had no enemy to fight.

    However is succeeded in:

Making PvP fun, still love chasing renown and having the ability to team with others or fight solo.

Having a lore rich world, I still find new things in game and there are so many hidden places with enquire gear and unlocks.

Unlocks, there is pretty much an unlock for anything and everything - some of the titles were worth the time spent getting them and added a sense of fun to the game.

Its a pvp game. I loved how as a level 1 I could fight straight away.

Sorry this class was not part of release so you are giving wrong information. The game was rushed in many ways I agree ( You just have to look at the hidden files to see the dwarf City and some of the things they wanted to include) but thats EA for you, deadlines and money.

I love PvP and still continue to play WAR, its great for large fights, small fights, ganking and exploring what can be a beautiful game ( path of Sigmar, locations, views and some of the mobs.)

All in all the game suffered massively from miss management, terrible communication and no sense of directions. Since going F2P there are again filled battle fields so would suggest if you ever enjoyed a fight on WaR to come back for the last few weeks ( Very easy to get a level 40 and play straight away thanks to a potion you can take)

    Cheers

What was the class with the white dress and the pet cat that dominated in pvp? Its been years since I played the game

White Lion, not sure about dominate but each class was strong against another in a certain way. Personally I used to hate Squig Herders with a passion!

I personally don't think there are lessons to be taken from WAR for this game that can't be taken from any other MMO. EC is just an entirely different kind of game, based on what's been shown and mentioned so far.

And WAR failed mostly because it really was just another MMORPG, I played it for a couple of months and had quite a bit of fun with it, but no more than I could've had with WoW or any other MMORPG. There just wasn't anything that made it special IMO. And we all know that the MMORPG industry has been on it's last legs for quite some time, at least subscription based ones. Variety is slowly being introduced of course, and little by little MMOs are starting to adjust to the new industry standards. I personally think EC will cause quite a stir in the industry and serve as en example to other games.

WAR was quite a bad game. The list of what they did wrong is too long to post here

Your last sentence was what was said 1000 times before with almost every MMO, lessons to be learned are that if you make a PvP game keep it PvP- if you try to serve everyones wants and needs you will fail.

Playing for 2 months saved you from some of the horrible decisions EA?Mythic /GoA made but also you missed out on some amazing fights, not sure what other mmo i have have had fights in which have resulted in me having over 1000 kills an evening.

Great input, is there anything you would like to see different in 40K?

  9. WAR, had short term service in my country, It was disastrous.
Beside people being ignorant of it's settings, deviding the races into two faction was the worst thing anyone could do. And making those famed units, such as, white lion , etc, into 4 boring jobs were another thing to blame them. And 3rd, it's graphic really didn't follow the trend. it was blocky and cartoonish. It was hillarious.

One thing they can learn is to not do what WAR did with combat feedback.

The feedback during fights in WAR sucked. Animations and skill-timings were AWFUL and made the combat feel disconnected and choppy. The poor combat effects didn't help things either

Please put emphasis on good animation and combat feedback, it's so important and so many MMO's completely fail at this which cripples the combat as a result
