If you get a JPA with a power weapon he doesnt have the necessary armor or jetpack to get the job done, because his survivalbility gets already toned down consiserably because he got slower and The attack animation makes it more situational for him to propely escape. The other glaring fact about this not being a problem with JPAs survivalbility is that if you alone as a tactical or dev is a death sentence in itself because, if you are in open areas, you are just a very easy prey for any JPA to pick up, this is asymetrical balance, thats why some of the rooms are cramped up and offer little room for mistakes if u are a JPA. A good example for you guys who think this is not the case: i use chainsword, artificer armor and fuel wargear along with smart pistol and healthpack. I killed close to 10 eldar last night alone with my jpa without even wasting my healthpack during that one row of kills (and that was in maggon station in B point while evryone was in A point) and no I'm not self defeating my argument here, the reasons for that to happen are pretty much what ive mentioned above. 1rst - they were all in the open 2nd- instead of shot me down most tried to actualy engage me in melee instead of dbashing ( each dbash equals 1 fuel btw). 3rd- they didnt at any moment tried to shot me down when they had the chance, specialy the swooping hawk who was providing support (and he did had a good ammount of time to do so) 4rth- most of them engaged me on melee and/or without support n the same place. This my friends is not a issue with the JPA in the slightest, its the lack of coordination and proper actions to put me down and I'AM skilled with my JPA enough to knoe how to counter dbashing so people need to be extra carfull when dealing with me in close combat. NOTE: Some of the guys i took down had respawn and could've taken care of the problem if they had adressed at least one of the mistakes I've mentioned above. I will say though there is a problem still but not related to JPA but rather with the RPS system wich seems to be inrespomsive sometimes wich makes a bigger struggle for ranged classes, i know because i play with my tactical just as often as i play with my JPA. Those were just my opinion on personal expiriences, I still dont see the problem with JPA other then the dbash evasion wich again still needs fuel to sacrefice fuel charges to be propely evaded.
Amen. The problem is not the JPA using power weapons. It's power weapons are too good because of the broken melee system. Any weapon should have a chance to have a fair fight but that's not the case at the moment.
Kinda wish they'd find a way to limit power weapons. The mission statement was always to deliver the true 40k warrior experience, yet every salt marine and his dog has a power weapon. 90% of ground assaults have a bloody storm shield, a supposedly rare and precious piece of technology usually only given to space marines with terminator honours. The quantity of power weapons renders toughness irrelevant and makes the higher tier armours kinda rubbish for their loadout points. I would probably like to see a loadout point cost increase for power weapons. I can't really think of any other logical incentive to take a chainsword. This would also give veterans a point, since you'd be able to pack the best armour and a power weapon. On that note, a buff to the storm shield and an increase in it's loadout points would be nice to see. If it were me, I'd make it so insanely expensive that only veteran loadouts can really afford to take it without sacrificing everything else. It would need to be suitably strong in exchange. Instead of half the space marine force running around with storm shields, it would be one or two guys that could act as a strong veteran wall for their team, giving the veteran loadout a fear-factor and purpose in the game. Hell either that or just make certain items veteran-only. Storm shields, possibly master crafted power weapons etc. I'd like to see Eldar veteran aspect warriors renamed to exarch and have special wargear like Hawk's Talons and Tempest launchers limited to Exarchs. Even the description of the Hawk's Talon is something like "One hawk's talon per generation"
Just to be clear.... the general consensus is that melee is absurdly overpowered. Per your request this would mean buffing ranged to be competitive (opposed to nerfing melee) which would dramatically reduce the TTK for ranged.
I don't think JPA's are necessarily OP....but...I am getting quite tired of them. They flood games now more often than not. It could just be a "class fantasy(Blizz TM)" that people want to play them but I suspect it's because of "lul space bar teleport" instead. I have no issue with them taking any weapons available for melee, I do have issue with the fact that they seem to be just as durable if not more durable than foot sloggers. Feels wrong.
Actually, excluding oneshots (hopefully going to be nerfed, power fist/klaw charged attacks apart) melee ttk is already longer than ranged in the vast majority of cases.
