If you critic something (a real critic, saying "this is shit" is just someone being an idiot) usually is because you care about it and want it to improve.
I agree with the OP. People with your attitude are rather seldomly found, Joram; a lot of People start bickering purely for the sake of bitching around, especially when they are online. I would love to get my Hands on an unfinished Alpha or beta; we survived Warhammer : Space Marine without dedicated Servers, after all, how hard can EC be after that ?
What may seem as nitpicking to one person may be a fundamental problem to another. But actual nitpicking is somewhat forgiveable if the person knows they are nitpicking. Also, criticism only works if it is constructive. I'm a fan of 40K, have been since the late 80's, and I know there are forum members who have seen my some of criticisms as nitpicking, I freely admit some examples of it is, but I have also seen what I perceive as fundamental problems but hopefully I've done my best to back that up with details to support my point of view. I've also tried to be constructive in my criticisms
During my stay on this forum, i have grown fond of the complaining crowd over those who are bootlicks. That might be cause i dont like people praising blindlessly anything some dev is doing simply cause they feel they owe the dev. We dont owe the EC devs anything outside our faith and trust, they owe us a good game, and we are here to cheer them on in this endeavor and tell them how to mold it so it can flourish past a few months of interest. As someone who worked in construction for quite some time, id obviously expect the guy we are building a house for to be around and interact with us as to the nitpicks he has about this and that, its his damn house which he is expecting to be happy about. If he just never came about the construction site the customers tended to have dozens of issues to shove in our face when it was already too late to fix them. Same thing applies here, most of the people complaining do so cause they want a good product, not some sad excuse for a game with 40k colors on it. If i wanted a mediocre game id go and cheer on the plethora of nonsense mobile phone 40k games in production. If this game is to be alive for years it has to be interesting and true to its playerbase, and thats exactly why they are so receptive of our criticism and even ask of us to criticize. Cause like us they also dont want this game shut down in a year or so, and want to make it the best experience for everyone. So feel free to be content with mediocrity, the devs and most of the community (present and future) surely arent going to be.
I think you should use the words "not great" instead of "bad" and why does this game have to be about 40k?!?!. Who are these people you refer too? I am a certain person! why did you just abuse me ?!?!?! NOW I'M NOT EXCITED AND THE STATE OF THE GAME IS MORE INTOLERABLE THEN WHEN I STARTED READING YOUR POST ALSO THE FACT THAT YOU DIDN'T REFERENCE SIDEGRADES MEANS WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THEM NOW FOR SEVERAL PAGES UNTIL EVERYONE LEAVES THE THREAD AND GODS HELP ANYONE NEW TO THE FORUMS WHO STUMBLES ACROSS THIS THREAD BECAUSE I WILL DESTROY THEM WITH DEVASTATING WALLS OF TEXT!!!!! ...but i'm really happy and excited if you can't tell already!
A Problem is surely that a lot of founders are W40k enthusiasts. To make matters worse, most of us have the "nerd gene" ( you know - heavy metal t - Shirt during high School, long hair, thick glasses, playing dungeons and Dragons while the sun was shining outside ) and care about our "lil hobbiez". I do understand that most of us want a game to be "perfect". Problem is just that that does not mean that we have the same view on the subject. I myself do not care as much as I used to when I was younger about a game any more. For me, its fine when the game runs smoothly, but whether a bolter is a gun that propels miniature rockets at my enemy or shoots laser rays ( yes, sacrilege, I just want to illustrate my Point - so please do not take any offense if, e.g. you participated in the "game might get bolter wrong" discussion) at them ist not really that important it ist stable, works out nice ( where is my Alpha key ?) and allows me to grab some nice free hours after work here and there ( als Long as my personal sister of battle allows me, of course). I do, of course, understand People who want everything to be "just right". Thats perfectly okay, but there will come a Point where the effort will simply outweigh the Overall benefit. If the devs get 80 % right, I will be happy.
