How to win as LSM

Discussion in 'Space Marines' started by Forj, Jan 27, 2017.

  1. You forget something in your post dear OP, have a game to play warhammer 40k... because EC will be a paper character fight. I'm just so disgusted that I can throw up anymore, my stomach is empty and all my bike is already on the floor.
Good luck Brothers and see you in 20 years for maybe a good game in the W40k universe.

Edit: it is my opinion and absolutely not related to SFU opinion.

Problem with this post (sorry op no disrespect) is 90% of the LSM (ok thats just a number i pulled out the air but it feels right :p ) will never come to this forum and read it lol

biggest problem imho is the plus timer on first capped caps... its just beyond them to figger it out :(

Yep, that's a huge problem. I'm just doing what I can.

Hey Forj. Still fighting the good fight I see. Lemme add a little thing I noticed:

When engaging in melee, the different races (at least to me) have different preferences on what to do (I guess dictated by what worked for them in the past and what was imbalanced due to animations/other factors):

Eldar in general are much more Dbash happy. This basically comes from their DBash being very quick to come out. They generally fast spam less when in close range compared to other races. On gapclosure, they either prefer heavy attack or go for shooting rather than bridging the gap with fast attacks. From my experience, this comes from Eldar shying away from possible stuns that could render them an easy target when they hit DBashes, movement is life for them. So if you get into close combat with Eldar, try to use more heavy attacks to punish their Dbash spamming.

Orks fight very heavy attack focussed. This, in my opinion, stems from the past when their heavy attack was very quick to come out and easily abused. Also, their animations make it difficult to tell fast from heavy attack, so people might Dbash in error which the Orks capitalize on. Orks generally seem to wreck Eldar in melee and I bet it's down to this and the Eldar reliance on Dbashing alot. So against Orks, try to run into them and pass them on forward-right or forward-left (sharp angle so the autoaiming has a hard time tracking you) when they attack from just outside of fast attack range. It's usually a heavy attack coming, then heavy attack them as they pass. Also, Orks can't really roll out of Dbash stuns so they try to avoid getting caught in them. Hence more Heavy attacks being used.

CSM and LSM have the highest reliance on RMB spam it seems, they seem to use far less Dbash or Heavy attacks from the getgo compared to Eldar and Orks. As Eldar, it's usually a good call to DBash against a CSM/LSM, you more often than not either clang on the bash or stun them when they light attack. No idea why it is more prevalent with them, probably because in history, they didn't have a phase where one of the other attacks gave an advantage due to design errors.

All this is of course only trends and not saying "They only do that". But in general, when the fighting is already going and people have little time for making clear decisions in melee, my rule of thumb is: Eldar tend to DBash when in doubt, Orks try to dodge roll and heavy attack and LSM/CSM just come for you with the RMB clicking.

That a very accurate statement, I normally fight LSM or CSM so I'm rather reliant on D bash in many cases as it basically a guaranteed distance maker for my rifle with all the light attacks, especially when you run away and you can hear the grunting of light spams to catch my Eldar but when I rarely fight Orks I generally die to mass heavy spam with little I can do:p guess I will have to work on breaking the habit like my medic calls in TF2

As someone who plays CSM and SM more than the others, I have a bit of a reason for not D-bashing against Orks or Eldar.

When I'm playing against SM or CSM I can easily tell if they're going to perform a fast or heavy attack cos I find their animation to be more..."obvious"?

I don't know if it's simply because I haven't been paying attention properly or maybe I'm simply dumb (My money is on the latter tbh) but I can't 100% tell if an Eldar or Ork is going for Heavy or Light, their animation isn't as big of a tell to me as SM and CSM's are.

Yes I know the obvious part would be on whether or not they're in the wind up animation, but when it comes to making a quick decision on which attack they're going to use, I find it harder to tell on those 2 races compared to SM & CSM. (Perhaps I just need to practice against them more and see if I can tell the difference better.)

So against those 2 races I do tend to use light attacks more, simply because if they are indeed going for a heavy, I beat it. If they're going for a stun I at least still have a tiny bit of time to try and dodge.

Not sure if this is also the reason why others seem to use their lights more, just thought I'd throw my own reason for it out there.

I would love to have an Agnathio attackers guide.

Cause we always end up with +200 lives in B.

People still breaking the doors the faster they can and they dont understand that having 200 lives in B is like shooting your own feet.

People still going with Ordenance leading the charge, when turrets are operative, and without the predators support

Great post. A lot of playing this game is general strategy and understanding how the game works,
Along with sticking with your team and not going at it alone.

I mostly play eldar, and we seem to have a good grasp on sticking together, as eldar are so specialized they cannot fulfill more than one or two rolls typically. I can tell you whenever we lose to LSM, orks or CSM is when they have these big death balls of 10+players on a point (and no one takes a tempest launcher!).

But if you want my honest opinion on why LSM lose, the REAL reason, is because everyone treats each other pretty bad. I recently decided to give LSM another try, so I Played last night and three guys spent the entire match...yes, the entire match, arguing and reaming out all of us "noobs". My rank 1 load out with no special gear landed me at 4th place, and everyone's still calling us all noobs. From a psychological perspective, no one is gonna wanna help the ass clowns who are screaming and raging the whole match.
I know I don't, my motivation to play as a team or my best drops a lot when that stuff comes out.

People switched squads, dropped out of the game, or started arguing back with them. Pretty soon you got a whole squad of 5 guys standing still because they are typing out arguments when they could be capping or defending points. I played vs LSM yesterday, and my fire dragon melted 3 guys who were standing there typing. I knew this cause they were in a group and I was behind them. One stopped and the others kept running. Killed him. About 3 seconds after I kill him the next guy ahead stops and stands there. Kill him. After that guy the last guy does the same thing, kill him too. They didn't even see me coming or move, they just stood there and got melted.

And this happens EVERY GAME. I'm honestly not trying to start a huge argument or war. As I've said before, plenty of great LSM players who are great leaders and good teachers. Forj was the first player to message me when I got the game and posted on here and guided me in heavy support load outs. I usually come top 5 by following his advice, whether we win or not. There are a lot of good players out there, but I think the LSM faction has been stuck with a lot of reactive ones.

The funny part is, the players that spend the whole match yelling and screaming at the team still do wel and come top 5 as well. If they dedicated all that energy into actually playing, it would probably be enough to swing the game to LSM favor. Or they could choose to be positive and lead properly. A lot of new players since the steam sale a month ago, I'm one of them....people need to be patient and explain, Not yell and swear at everyone.

When it comes to making a point or trying to guide others, You get more with sugar than you do with shit.

You are on the money that CSM/LSM have more readable animations than Eldar and Orks (though Eldar aren't too bad by now).

Whether using light attacks as the secure fallback against Eldar or Orks is debatable. Eldar are PRETTY good at capitalizing on their DBash and Orks usually don't heavy attack from in your face (or rather, the smart ones don't:) ) but rather a bit of distance. If you're unlucky, they hit you with their heavy after your light attack because you whiffed into the air or you break the heavy attack but still take some damage due to lag/other shenanigans. The only real hint I can give you: Judge the distance THEY try to keep. At least from my experience, I'm doing pretty well on Orks that do a dodge away from me to predict a heavy attack coming. Eldar is a mixed bag. Melees often go for the heavy but more often than not, they try to pistol you first. It's a bit of a "who can stay ahead in the one-upping game".

Against Eldar, I rather not eat the Dbash stun. Even if I can roll it, they can start shooting earlier and I'm at the perfect range for most of their weapons to outgun me. Don't firefight with Eldar within their comfort zone.
  10. I don't know what we've been doing the last couple days but I've actually had probably 50% win rate the last two nights.

Granted some of them came from bad MM starts(4v12 shit like that) but had some real hard fought down to the wire wins.

    God bless the bucketheads.
