How to improve ranged combat?

    You're misunderstanding my point. I'm saying that the 'high-accuracy, high-recoil slot' can't be filled by the SC because it's the opposite, or the Shoota because that would be absurd. Thus, it's there for the taking for the Bolter.

    It's already hard enough to keep your crosshairs on a target without the entire planet shaking because a Rhino popped on the other side of it.

    If I may offer an opinion?

    Bolters should be the more precise of the three.

    Bolt rounds take a lot of effort to make and are rather large (though the boltgun's magazine is plenty sufficient in size to accommodate a significant number of rounds, especially if stacked correctly which the magazine creators in the 30th millennium would have done), and thus the boltgun fires fairly slowly but does higher damage per hit. A slower-firing weapon with higher damage per hit should be more acccurate, as being inaccurate would impact it more than a faster-firing weapon and be more frustrating when multiple rounds go to bad places.

    A Shuriken Catapult's ammunition is actually a stick that the gun slices off discs of and launches at the target. This weapon fires rapidly and has a fairly large magazine size, thus it should be less-accurate since it can compensate for the lower accuracy by simply filling the area with rounds to compensate.

    I have yet to play Orks so I dunno about the Shoota at all.

    The Shoota is the problem because it's "supposed" to be... well, shit. Obviously it can't be shit, because that would be stupid. Ergo, I guess just let it 'fall' into the midground slot between the Shuriken Catapult's low-accuracy, low-recoil niche and the Bolter's high-accuracy, high-recoil niche. Likewise the Damage per Shot vs Shots per Second variable (assuming they all keep the same DPS for sanity's sake).
