I've played enough Planetside 2 to be totally biased against drop pods. Fuck them and everything they stand for. I want to get around in land raiders.
I think you will be able to arrive however u would choose to. every fraction will probably something like a camp where they start and then chose what to do. (Use a drop pod or get into a battlwagon).
i know its not exactly keeping with the lore but what about this-- space marines get thunderhawks as a vehicle, right? one person in the vehicle acts as a spotter of sorts-- for all intents and purposes they basically man a turret located on the bottom of the vehicle that can zoom in rediculously far--then, they can fire, and unless the guys inside are termies or jump troopers, one drop pod fires out of the thunderhawk/from a ship above it, and lands below. if they are termies, they deep strike in, albeit somewhat separated to balance it out a bit, and if they are jump troops, they litterally jump out of the thunderhawk, jet packs ablaze, and land--like fucking baddasses. you could also have an homing beacon item that would make it so that deep striking is more accurate, drop pods are more accurate, and jump packs have some kind of UI thingy telling them where the action is nearest. you can also opt to just land in the thunderhawk and get out manually, which means no risk of the drop pod landing on a tree or wall and blowing up, deep striking inside the ground, and a bad landing with jump pack. same could work with CSM, and they could also be summoned from the warp......somehow.....more later. orks would just already be there because orks eldar use webway gates and teleporting. more specifics later.
Which ever way we do end up getting to battle, I am certain that there must be ANIMATIONS for mounting and dismounting of vehicles. That little detail was one of my favorite immersive aspects of Planetside 1, and I cannot even begin to explain the amount of disappointment I showed when they didn't renew this feature for Planetside 2.
